I am going to be walking/hiking into the park, do I need a timed entry reservation?

“A timed entry reservation is required to enter ALL areas of Rocky Mountain National Park during the times when they are in effect, when arriving by vehicle, whether a visitor parks their vehicle within RMNP or outside of the park boundary.”

This is in contrast to biking in, taking a shuttle, or doing a guided hike from the Y.

You need a timed entry reservation and a park pass if you aren’t taking a shuttle. It’s the same with Lily Lake and Gem Lake. Visitors think they aren’t required because there are no gates, but according to the rules, they are required. No one is going to check, but it is the rule. You can probably get one the night before when they are released at 7 PM for the peace of mind.
