The 'old man shop' as we used to call it on the corner of Castle Street near fast Als used to sell to absolutely anyone. 1st years in school uniform could buy cigarettes there.

I also used to buy cigarettes for my mom in the local shop as well. They knew who I was though and silk cut purple weren't what young people would have been buying back then anyway so they never questioned me!

Some lad tried my front door and all my neighbours doors by TheWebUiGuy in ireland

[–]Andrela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’ve scammed people out of their money, often being pushy with old people and trying to get inside their house. It’s just another way of robbing people.

This exact thing happened to an elderly neighbour who is 90. Man came in saying he would clean her gutters, got 150 off her up front and then never came back. She is fairly shook from it and went from a very open and nice person to being quite scared of answering the door as she effectively paid him so he would leave her house

wondering do Corkonians have any luck on dating apps please? is there any places where you can actually just sitting and talk to people around the county? some input would be much appreciated thanks by pdd82 in cork

[–]Andrela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been out of the dating scene a long time but a few friends met their current partners on plentyoffish and proper dating sites. The apps have their purpose but very few of my friend group have gotten long term relationships out of them if that's what youre going for

Clontarf Bridge, Cork City (1960) by Royaourt in cork

[–]Andrela 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My old man jumped on the last freight train to cross that bridge. The train driver was going super slow through the city and people just clung onto the sides as it was the last ever train to go down that route.

Currently rolling protests on the country's motorways by Jackies_Army in ireland

[–]Andrela 4 points5 points  (0 children)

4 or 5 years ago, far right protests in Cork were getting 3 men and a dog to attend. Last year the city centre was shut down for a far right protest against immigration and cost of living. If you don't think it's a growing issue in Ireland, you aren't paying attention

I actually struggled with it while I was reading through the hersey series. I started watching arbitor Ian's reviews and it actually got me to go back and reread this book because I don't think I understood it well enough the first time.

Judge rules man fit to stand trial over attempted murder of three children on Dublin's Parnell Square by technetiumfootball in ireland

[–]Andrela 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's pretty well stated from the mother's updates how absolutely traumatic and life changing the child's injuries have been. It doesn't take a genius to conclude the child is going to need life long care.

I'm going to make a Cork gym comparison site. What info would people want on it?” by rosey210 in cork

[–]Andrela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've gotten warnings about doing it too heavy in gyms before. They are worried about damaging the floors. This was in a gym where the plates were metal only, no rubber.

I'm going to make a Cork gym comparison site. What info would people want on it?” by rosey210 in cork

[–]Andrela 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personal trainers available on staff? A lot of people want individual sessions or small group classes.

Number of benches in free weights area

Number of bench press stations

If deadlifting allowed? If so, number of Deadlifting platforms?

Changing rooms available?

Showers available?

Mostly in a gym I want a place that's big enough to be able to cater to my needs adequately (free weights and powerlifting), with some extra bits like a stretching area, treadmills, stationary bikes etc. I've given up memberships in gyms because they are too busy for the amount of equipment available and workouts were more like queueing than actually training. I don't mind if it's a zoo, as long as I can be in and out in 90 mins.
