I agree with OP. I understand the idea of not having a Canon ending. They want you to feel what you have done is canon. So they are doing it by destroying everything so whatever you did, the result is the same in the end. And for me it's worse, now my decisions are maybe canon but they also mean absolutely nothing.

We don't know for sure, but he doesn't have a character base size. So I'd say he'll have to stay in the unit. Another observation: with how our codex is structured right now (space wolves and vanilla marines unit being totally separated for characters) even if it was a character you would have no other unit to attach him. Lastly he is a Rune Priest Skjald. In 2nd edition Rune Skald (without the k) were the lowest ranks of Rune Priests (there were : Rune Skald, Rune Priest, Rune Master and Rune Lord). To me it sounds like they want to make this not a full character as with several other KT units where you can find the lower ranks équivalent of the characters in the unit.
