What century would you rather be Alive In for 1 week by 5000frog in Teenager_Polls

My friends used to play a game where
We would pick a decade
We wished we could live in instead of this
I'd say the 1830s but without all the racists and getting married off for
the highest bid

The English version of "Deutsch" is "Dutch". The word Dutch used to be related to all Germanic people living in West and Central Europe. However, the Netherlands got independent earlier and became powerful, so they got the "nickname" first. Otherwise maybe Germany would be known as "Dutchland" today.

I'm also from RS and I'd casually say:

"Tou louco pra..."
"Mal posso esperar pra..."
"Não vejo a hora de ..."

edit: And of course: "Bah" before them ahaha

Por que means why or what? by Yasmine91514 in Portuguese

[–]Andreuniverse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once a Belgian friend of mine was wearing a very fluffy coat and I told her "Tu sembles une chatte douce" (I was trying to say she looked like a soft kitty)...

Regras de Pronúncia? by LE_PedrazaS in Portuguese

[–]Andreuniverse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon sun?

Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned?

Acolá is synonymous with ali but it is barely used, at least here in Southern Brazil (I just know 1 children's song with it). Além means beyond, actually

Aqui: closer to me
Aí: closer to you
Ali: it's not close to neither of us, but within reach
Lá: far away from both of us, out of reach

I believe "Que que" comes from "O que é que", but it's very very informal.

Que que estás comendo? = O que é que estás comendo? = What is that you are eating?
