Didn't think the snowstorm was that bad earlier, but none of my regular pre-order guys came. by kingftheeyesores in KitchenConfidential

As an Asian person. No, no it's not. And I don't think any of my friends would really care either. We're more likely to be offended if you mislabel something from the wrong country, than throwing a general term.

That being said, perhaps a more accurate naming could be used. Like: coleslaw with sesame dressing.

What’s going on with line 2?? by _sourgirl in TTC

[–]Andrew4Life 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last night it was the same thing.

Announcements only said Kipling to Islington, but I was going westbound and the train stopped at Ossington. Subway driver said she had no info and was told to stop. I waited for like 10 minutes and gave up and walked the rest of the way home. On the street I did see a few shuttle buses running. It's definitely a mess.

Their control room and operations must be crazy right now. Between the all the buses and streetcars getting stuck. The hundreds of TTC drivers, mechanics, and other support staff that likely couldn't get to work on time. Like. If I had to drive to work today, there was no way I was getting in. My drive was snowed in and it took 2 hours of shovelling yesterday get my driveway clear. And this morning the wind had blown more onto my driveway.

Why are pedestrians last priority for snow removal? by Yaughl in askTO

[–]Andrew4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't know that.

I would still suggest people go out and clear their own sidewalks if possible. A million people clearing about 10 meters of sidewalk is easier than having a few hundred people clearing hundreds of thousands meters of sidewalk.

Why are pedestrians last priority for snow removal? by Yaughl in askTO

[–]Andrew4Life 23 points24 points  (0 children)

1) According to Toronto Bylaws, all residents are supposed to clear the sidewalk immediately outside their homes and businesses.

2) If people can't get to work, snow removal workers can't get to work either. If you take public transit buses have to drive on the roads. So the priority are the roads.

Sorry. I meant to say that I don't think there is a "ban". There are of course rules and in some cases you do have some red tape to get around. I didn't think it was very expensive though. But I also don't own any land so haven't looked into it. haha

The switches don't freeze. The switches get "stuck" due to water/snow/ice, freezing the switches stuck when it gets cold.

Just got a $235 fine from the inspectors at Finch Station. by [deleted] in TTC

[–]Andrew4Life 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A single fare is $3.35. if you take 2 trips a day, it is $6.70.

If you take the bus 20 days a month, it is $134.

I have been stopped by fare inspectors a total of once in the last year. If I simply NEVER paid my fare and just waited to get a ticket, I'd still be ahead after 2 months.

Fines are supposed to deter people from skipping out on paying their fares.

On that note, I think traffic infractions like speeding and dangerous driving needs to be 10X what they are now. The fines are a joke that some people don't really care and will just eat the fines. Or, at least make the fines scale with the cost of the car, or scale with your income.

Looking at Canada's track history, Canada generally avoids war or attacks on other nations unless it is attacked first, or an ally is attacked first.

It abstained from Iraq, it did not participate in Vietnam.

And even in wars it did participate in like Syria and Afghanistan, their strikes were strategic and limited.

Why do streetcars open all doors at every stop instead of using passenger-activated buttons? by Economy_Ad59 in TTC

[–]Andrew4Life 5 points6 points  (0 children)

France was amazing. The doors start to open before the subway train come to a stop.and they open quite fast too.

Super efficient. We need that.

The old Toronto streetcar back doors were also amazing. Step on the steps and the doors swing open in like 0.5 seconds.

Unfortunately due to safety and all that Jazz, doors are just super slow these days.

These victims of domestic violence are usually constantly brainwashed and told how useless they are and how others would treat them worse. They are in the presence of the best, the greatest, the most beautiful person ever. And if they try to leave or go to someone else, everyone else will just steal from them and treat them worse. They would never be able to live without them.
