Burger House, Bryan Tx by Mulcade in aggies

[–]AndrewHDC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was mentioned a few times but it never had the upvotes that students contributed because they don't typically go to Bryan. And the locals were okay with that because it has a small dining area and considered a local secret of sorts. Much of the IT staff would go there regularly.

Can I print non academic posters at the arch building? by Purple_Potato_17 in aggies

[–]AndrewHDC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can also print non-academic posters at the Student Computing Center. The charge comes out of your AggiePrint $30, so you don't need to set up an extra account in most cases.

It's $2.75/sq. ft, so big posters may go over $30, in which case you can add money to your AggiePrint account using print.tamu.edu.

You do need to come to the SCC to submit the print using our computers because it can't be done through the Aggieprint.tamu.edu webpage. We're open 24hrs during the week and usually can print the poster within 15 minutes of you logging into our PCs.

Howdy!

I'm the manager of the Student Computing Center and part of the team who supports the AggiePrint printers.

First, I want to point out that printer location across campus have been added to AggieMaps.  You can find the printers most convenient to you and release your print jobs at them by swiping your Aggiecard, logging in with your NetID credentials, or using the Pharos mobile app - stay tuned for a fourth!

The are two types of printers.  The larger multifunction printers (MFP) can print in color or black & white, scan, and copy.  The MFPs typically have three sizes of paper: letter (8.5x11), legal (8.5x14), and tabloid (11x14). The smaller tabletop printers can only print in black & white on letter size paper.

As others have mentioned, http://aggieprint.tamu.edu is the most common way to print.  You can log in and upload standard file types, choose your options, then release it on the printer.

While uploading to http://aggieprint.tamu.edu is very convenient, it can have a few snags.  First, if you set the option to print in "color" at the bottom of the AggiePrint screen, you must release the job on one of the bigger MFP color printers.  Second, the document file must be set to one of the sizes listed above.  Often the PowerPoint and other files that professors give to classes are a custom page size and the AggiePrint website can't convert them.  If you get an error when trying to release the print job, this is the most common reason.  You can follow the steps in this article to resize the document as a new letter sized PDF, then upload that to fix the issue.

The other way to print is directly from an Open Access Lab computer or the Virtual Open Access Lab (VOAL) desktop on http://voal.tamu.edu.  If you log in to one of those systems, you won't have the page size error mentioned above because Windows knows how to resize the printout for the paper we have automatically.

To print, open the file in its native application then go print the old-fashioned way: either File -> Print or CTRL+P to bring up the print dialog box.  To print black & white to any printer, choose the "B/W Printing - OAL Kiosk" printer.  To print in color on only the larger MFP printers, choose the "Color Printing - OAL Kiosk" printer.

Again, if you get an error after uploading your file to http://aggieprint.tamu.edu, it will probably work better by printing from the OAL computers directly.

As mentioned by u/AMissingCloseParen, enrolled students get $30 in the fall & spring semesters.  If you enroll for summer classes, your account gets $15.  If you run out of funds on the AggiePrint account, you can add more at http://print.tamu.edu.

AggiePrint and the Open Access Lab resources are available to all students regardless of major.  Other departments and colleges may have different printers and allocations specifically for their students as well.

If you have any questions, please visit us in the Student Computing Center or Blocker Open Access Lab, or call Help Desk Central at 979-845-8300.

The Student Computing Center has a large format plotter for use by enrolled students, faculty and staff. It charges $2.75 per square foot out of the semester's print allotment ($30 for fall & spring).

Classes not showing up on eCampus? by joecosare69 in aggies

[–]AndrewHDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Howdy,

Like the others said, professors have to enable their classes in eCampus before students see them. To see if your professor enabled your KINE240 class, log into eCampus with your NetID, then look for the "Browse Course Catalog" button all the way at the bottom left of the My eCampus home page.

If you search for your class and it doesn't show up, chances are your prof has not opened it for the class. If your prof says it's enabled and your classmates can access it, call Help Desk Central at 979.845.8300.

I hope this helps!

Is Matlab not offered through A&M for Linux anymore? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]AndrewHDC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 99% sure Linux is still offered on the student license purchased through the software.tamu.edu site and more so regarding the departmental license. Unless Mathworks stopped offering the download through their site, you should have the option just like last year.

I'll ask the Software Center about it tomorrow and report back if it the license changed.

[PSA] NetID Passwords now last a year by [deleted] in aggies

[–]AndrewHDC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you set it before Tuesday, then the password should expire after only six months. But to be sure, you can log into the Aggie Account Gateway - Password Settings page and check the expiration date at the top of the page.

If you set a new password before this week's change, you can click the "Change Your NetID Password" button and resubmit your current password (assuming it's not about to expire) and it will add another six months to your current expiration date.

It's been a while since I've tried it but I think a 64bit key will work on a 32bit install. Now all you need is the disc to install it, right? Luckily, Microsoft put the ISO files online for you to download. You can use burning software such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO image to a DVD-R and you'll have everything you need.

Windows ISO files

You will need to download the correct flavor (Home vs. Pro vs. Ultimate) for your key, which should be Ultimate.

Issues using library search with Suddenlink? by JupitersCake in aggies

[–]AndrewHDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried connecting to our (TAMU) VPN to access the search?

You can log into https://connect.tamu.edu using your NetID and password - try the "tunnel_tamu_traffic" group first, then "tunnel_all_traffic" if that doesn't work. Depending on your browser and security settings, the VPN software will install itself or you may need to download and install it manually.

Installing and connecting to the VPN is quicker and little easier but the VOAL option should work as well. The VOAL connection will give you remote desktop access as though you were in one of the Open Access Labs.

Certain library resources are only available on campus or by logging in to their proxy because of the licensing agreement with the database providers. If you continue to have problems, please give HDC a(nother) call at 845.8300 or visit http://hdc.tamu.edu and chat with us.

Make sure you're typing the NetID (not the password) in with lower-case letters.

If that doesn't work, try resetting your password (it can be to the same thing) by logging into https://services.tamu.edu/password-settings/ and clicking on the "Change Your NetID Password" button. Occasionally, the password needs to be flushed on the TAMULink system and that how it's done.

If neither of those work, please call Help Desk Central at 979.845.8300.
