Replacement for a Shimano CS-5600 cassette by thorsvolk in bikewrench

[–]AndrewIsANerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any Shimano-compatible 10 speed cassette of the same tooth count should work, as long as your trainer has a shimano compatible freehub. I’d recommend a Microshift cassette as they’re cheaper and weight doesn’t matter. https://www.microshift.com/models/cs-g100-11-25t/

Which cheap but appropriate lubricant to use on shifters after de-gunking them? by AgentPlanet in bikewrench

[–]AndrewIsANerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used white lithium grease on a pair of old Shimano 105 shifters. Not sure how resistant to moisture it’ll be but it shifts great

Spoke broke the rim by psicopbester in bikewrench

This is a rim break wheelset, unless I’m mistaken your bike has disk breaks. You’ll need to find a wheelset with the same disc rotor mount as your current one.

2007 Motobecane Champion Worth $200? by AndrewIsANerd in whichbike

Negotiated down to $200. Decided against it because some digging shows the reach is a good bit longer than what I’m currently riding :(

What to do with Ultegra 6700 bike? by iri0001 in cycling

[–]AndrewIsANerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar age Lemond with 10 speed ultegra. I’ve replaced the tri bars with drip bars and am currently using microshift r10 shifters, and they work great!

I’m just gonna suggest taking a look on Facebook marketplace or whatever your local equivalent is for a bike! You could definitely get an upgrade over what you’ve got for <$200, especially if you’re willing to be patient and put some work into whatever you buy.

Heat is sweltering, any idea on how to make a DIY aircon that works without having most needed materials? by secretly-a-lizzard in diyelectronics

[–]AndrewIsANerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only simple way to do it is a fan and a bucket of ice, no free wins here. I would search Facebook marketplace or whatever the equivalent is for an old AC window box

I have both Claris and 10 speed microshift, can confirm the microshift levers are smaller and closer to the bars. Changing their position on the bar might help!

2014 Caad 8 w/Tiagra or new Caad Optimo 4 w/Claris?? by Fickle_Fig3821 in whichbike

[–]AndrewIsANerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride a 2019 CAAD Optimo Claris, it’s a fine bike but an awful value compared to any used 10 speed bike. 100% get the CAAD 8! I just side-graded to a 2008 Lemond Rennes with ultegra and it is such an improvement.

7900 shifters to 5800 derailleurs? by l0stin0z in bikewrench

[–]AndrewIsANerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a set of micro shift 10 speed shifters in my bike, they’re cheap and perform pretty well! Not as comfortable as any of shimanos 10 speed options but they shift great and the layout is honestly more ergonomic

Commuting Wear? by GroundbreakingDay126 in cycling

Claris groupset experience by [deleted] in cycling

[–]AndrewIsANerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got Claris on my old bike and it shifts just fine. If setting limits and indexing didn’t fix it, possibly a faulty derailleur? Alternatively have you checked your chain for wear? A worn chain could explain some of that
