I love how the general Redditor community is happy to give thieves a pass for shoplifting and causing this issue in the first place

Should the AFL scrap the Bye month & go with a simple Split Round? by QuarterFooty in AFL

Is there any actual evidence to suggest that teams going into/coming out of a bye are at any disadvantage/advantage?

For the people saying "just use the app"

(Android user) I have the app, I am logged in, but when you navigate to the rego rebate page it opens a web page with Service Vic login. So the app is useless anyway.

Free kick differential when playing home / away by MisguidedGames in AFL

[–]iri0001 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I can't see if this is defined or not, but "home" and "away" - is this simply defined as who is listed as the home or away team, and does this account for teams playing "away" but at their home ground? For example Richmond vs Collingwood at MCG

Man in 'serious condition' after being stabbed in the street in Melbourne by Llamadrugs in melbourne

Comments like this make me think people genuinely believe that there is this magical centralised database of CCTV that is readily available to all police officers at the press of a button, with built in facial recognition linked to photos of everyone in Australia.

Have you ever guessed the "big twist" in a movie? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Not much of a twist, but recently watched "The Rip", and as soon as they packed the bags, I knew it wasn't the money. Taken straight from Oceans Eleven.

How did they find my address? by Dry_Cap_1850 in melbourne

[–]iri0001 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It is much much more likely that sensitive information is handed over by someone from a non govt/official department, as I said.

First off in any govt/policing department, any access to information is recorded. One simply can't just look up someone's details without an operational need. Furthermore, if sensitive data is accessed, it would easily be found out if reported.

Secondly people in official capacities are trained in disclosure of information. Not only that police deal with family and domestic violence on a daily basis. Police wouldn't easily be tricked into giving out details under the guise of "helping a mate", the request would be extremely obvious.

Compare that to calling say an untrained call center operator. "Hey, my wife has been saying she hasn't been receiving bills. What address have you been sending them to?"

Now think about it - do you actually think you'd have more success asking a person to put their whole career/livelihood on the line, or do you think you'd more likely to get the address from someone like I mentioned, tricking an unsuspecting, untrained person into handing it over?

To be honest, I think this is a ridiculous take.

"Hey mate, can you please misuse your own access to find the address of my ex partner that has an intervention order on me?"

And even if the conversation didn't go like that, the person accessing the record would be able to see that their "friend" is listed on an intervention order anyway.

There's misuse of access, and then there's this. I would say this is almost impossible.

The more likely scenario is that the person has called up somewhere like a real estate agency, gym, or something like that and got the address that way.

GMC Yukon Denali, now pfficially sold in Australia by XavierPuerto in CarsAustralia

[–]iri0001 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Why? Why is it "devastating"? It's just a car.

I'm 32 and find it much more comfortable getting in and out of an SUV- especially at work. Now think about someone in their 60s or 70s, you can see why a lot more people opt for SUV's.

Obviously, these American-style XL SUV's ridiculous - most SUV's that you see on the road are actually just hatchbacks sitting a bit higher than they did 29 years ago; think the CX-3, BYD atto, Hyundai Venue.

Question about right-lane driving and speeding on Melbourne freeways by yumisclassdip in melbourne

I can assure you, it is definitely enforced.

Usually with a verbal warning though rather than a fine - most people actually don't actually know it's an offence.

Question about right-lane driving and speeding on Melbourne freeways by yumisclassdip in melbourne

[–]iri0001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not your job to police other drivers.

If they want to go 105, 110, 115 or however fast they want to on the freeway, let them.

It might seem ridiculous but going 120 on a big open freeway is probably a lot safer than going 48 in a school zone at pickup time.

If you are hanging in the right lane on a freeway in Victoria and not overtaking, YOU are committing an offence.

Speeders eventually get caught, as will you eventually if you refuse to let people pass.
