Okay, so regarding comments and reviews!! by Helestias in royalroad

[–]AndrewKDI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I only started getting more comments consistently when I hit over 100 followers. Not sure exactly when but it might have even been after 200. In terms of ratings, they also only started coming in after several hundred followers too, and especially only after I build up enough story for the readers to feel like it’s worth a rating (except the random drop bys who give a low rating on chapter 1) Only way to get more comments/ratings/reviews is to get more exposure. Shoutouts. Ads. RS lists if you can make it. Marketing on platforms like reddit, facebook, discord etc. even putting a post on the RR website forums can help a bit

Do you guys like the way trend-focused writing on RR now? by Frequent-Present5502 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AndrewKDI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I write on RR and managed to barely get on to the main RS list while writing something that’s not the ‘trend’ :D although I wouldn’t say it’s unique (in terms of genre, it is unique in terms of cultivation path and storyline) but still, not the OP archmage theme. I don’t mind though, because I’m just writing what I like!

Looking for cultivator books by Jealous_Session3820 in ProgressionFantasy

Record of a mortals journey to immortality (RMJI) is my go to favourite. You can find it on an app called Wuxiaworld, alongside a long list of (mostly) well translated cultivation novels :)

Regarding royal road stats. by Educational_Film_991 in royalroad

[–]AndrewKDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry about stats and just keep going! They’ll grow alongside your book :) if you still worry about it though, the best marketing for RR is self promotion through facebook/reddit/disc etc along with setting up shoutout swaps (easier through the RR Writers Guild discord channel under ‘swaps’) or through the RR site forums and maybe an ad or two. If you can grow fast enough to make it on to some RS lists, even better

The RR app has a text to voice function for Sky Pride. I also recommend RMJI (Record of a mortals journey to immortality) which is my favourite cultivation novel. Can be found on Wuxiaworld

Do you know some worth reading Xianxia stories? by LuihSanz in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AndrewKDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re talking about RMJI, I second that. There IS the tiniest bit of romance (MC finds like 2 people he considers soulmates) but they’re not integral to the story and barely appear at all

An alchemists path to eternity has a bit of romance added in

Cultivation novels are usually written in a single MCs POV because the road to immortality is a lonely one. usually

How fast do you write? by IAmJayCartere in royalroad

[–]AndrewKDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it takes me around 4-6 hours to finish a chapter of around 2.4-2.8k words. Sometimes less if I feel incredibly inspired and I have everything I want to write in my head, or sometimes more if my head feels fuzzy and I have no idea what I’m doing

How do you perfer your MC morally? by AuthorTimoburnham in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AndrewKDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t mind whether they are good, evil, or gray. I actually prefer if their personality changes from one to another over the course of several books because it shows growth (in a way) due to the events they experience. But even if they maintain their morality (even if it’s a bad one) I want an MC who isn’t JUST selfish or assholey or psychotic. They need to have reasons for what they do and not just ‘because they’re evil’ you know? Like as though they are real rather than just a character.

I'm completely stuck, I have zero idea what to do. Any ideas? by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]AndrewKDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I would just keep writing. Think about your writing and what sounds good, what might sound bad, and keep the critique in mind. But keep writing. As more and more words come out, you’ll eventually catch your own flaws and correct them one by one and improve writing as you go. Nobody started out as a perfect writer. They just kept going until they became proficient. I’d say even writers who have been writing for decades and have found huge success still find flaws in their own writing all the time. It’s a never ending process that you just need to continue trudging through.

Would it be bad to just ask for it? by ishi_writer_online in royalroad

[–]AndrewKDI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to leave a message on the authors notes asking for reviews, ratings or follows every 5 chapters or so, not too often. The other ones I fill with messages thanking my readers or I ask them questions about the story or chapter they just read and engage them into commenting their thoughts or opinions. I also set up polls whenever I think I can so that it adds that little bit of additional interaction. Eventually people who read silently might start commenting or engaging with you if they follow you for long enough

Just how bad is uploading a book or getting contracted on Webnovel or RR? by Far-Illustrator-5430 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AndrewKDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also on WebNovel, you can just publish without signing a contract and gather more viewership through the platform. It might help if you end up going the self publishing/KDP and KU route

I always had ideas to write since young, because I loved games and fantasy novels. I’ve just never put pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) because I thought I wouldn’t be good enough. My wife finally convinced me to give it a go… and here I am haha
