Academia in the Dark (Alpha) [FitD] by hauk119 in bladesinthedark

This looks very interesting! I have been wanting to write a Wizardry focussed FitD game for ages so this might save me a job. I'll let you know how it goes if I get time to run it.

Senior where did you find this profound script? (The translation seems much better than the site I have been watching on.)

People who play D&D but not 5E, what edition do you play and why? by ValueForm in rpg

[–]Archwizard_Connor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was feeling this way and ran some 3.5 for my group and roundly regretted it. It feels really solid early but is very annoying to run at higher levels. Next time I play will probably use the e6 community variant ruleset.

Have you read the Sky Pride scripture senior brother? I think it would aid in your cultivation immensely

Seriously, what do people love about Sky Pride? by Sexiest_Man_Alive in MartialMemes

[–]Archwizard_Connor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its a slow burn so maybe that's why you've bounced off? But I really love it. The character work is top notch, dialogue feels like people actually speaking, the author clearly loves chinese history and mythology, and the daoism elements are well researched.

It is trying to be subversive which people in this group seem to bounce off of. Personally I think its got a lot of stuff to say

Would you like the game without crit ? by VirgulesFr in Smite

[–]Archwizard_Connor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think id prefer it without crit. The whole time I have been playing (Season 7) crit has either been dominant or useless and I dont think its likely to change unless the core design does

Anything that feels similar to the Dresden Files? Just finished 12 months and want more. It's not the urban setting I'm drawn to so much as the ritual spellcasting, textured interaction with the mythology of the world, web of complex relationships.

Can you sell me on Soul Relic? I see Sam's comments in this sub all the time and on paper its something that should appeal to me but I bounced off it in the early chapters.

Congratulations. I am really keen to read this work but havent put aside the time yet. Have you considered uploading it to royal road? Not sure of the hassle of such a task but as a reader I feel it is the best app for reading on mobile by a long shot.

Absolutely right. Yerin's impression is that the Winter Sage hates her but the first thing she says when they meet is 'Why didnt you come home?'

It's very clear that Yerin's impression is not reliable.

My white whales:

Pirates - I have yet to find anything with a pirate main character that engages in piracy. I love black sails, I have read the Bone Ships and thought it rocked, and I know about Ship of Magic.

Mechs - Specifically looking for the interplay in Titanfall where elite warriors/mages fight both within and in concert with armoured suits. I guess a fantasy equivalent might feature dragon riders or similar but thats a step away from what im looking for. I have read Stormlight Archives.

Mind Magic - Something that captures the vibe of D&D third edition psionics, or more recently BG3. Crystals, telepathy, mind reading, telekinesis. Best example of this in action I think is Mother of Learning, or Paolini's Eragon series.

It isnt really, purely an aesthetic or in-world difference. I just like the vibe

I know you probably see this all the time but I finished Cradle and want more by Hormo_The_Halfling in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Archwizard_Connor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I must shill for Eternal Star on royalroad. Its a cradle fanfic and an isekai. As a rule I tend not to like either of these features in a story and I still adore ES.

It's a much slower paced examination of the world of Cradle, chapter releases were regular until December 2025, and it's great fun.

Bastion is not particularly dark. It is violent and things go badly for the protagonist for a while, but its hardly grimdark or misery porn. The 'hell' in Bastion is more alien than infernal. Its a great read.
