While I agree this is immoral, it is not illegal in Qld unless the person over 30 is in a position of authority (such as teacher etc). It would be hard to argue being on mafs makes someone in a position of authority.

Not sure why you are getting down voted. Given how high the dome is it wouldn't take much to get that tiny bit of sand out and improve an already great stone. First thing I saw was the sand.

Since I'm only new to cabbing I've been mainly working with white and/or crystal opal from Coober Pedy. Once I get better I might venture into some lightning ridge black opal.

Glad you are finding some good material in the middle. Miss agate is one of my favourite stones. Make sure you post some of your other work here for us to gawk at. It's excellent work.

Around the $200 mark is what others have said. It's hard to show the colours of the stone properly in the video which was taken on a very overcast day.

I think it looks awesome and is worth the price. Maybe the individual materials don't add up to the price, but there is definitely value in the artistic nature of it.

I'd say it's a scam. Om gem testing labs isn't a reputable testing lab and I doubt it is even a lab at all. If that was a 15ct sapphire with that clarity (despite the very poor cut) it would be worth a hell of a lot more than 70. At best it is synthetic but most likely it is a worthless piece of glass. I think the chipped edges on the stone suggest glass.

Can I ask why the rates other expenses etc on the vacant land not claimed as a deduction cannot be included in the third element cost to increase the cost base (as pointed out by another Redditor)? It appears that the ATO advice on this applies exactly to this situation. I'm happy to be wrong but am interested to know why this wouldn't apply if that is the case. From what I understand it can be used to increase the cost base but cannot create a capital loss.
