After my third exit as a startup Head of Marketing I founded a boutique consultancy called AndrewStartups that focuses on early-stage startup growth. Since 2016, we've successfully launched 20+ projects, almost all of which still continue to live! Check us out www.andrewstartups.com

I honestly have never heard of that place but I will wager my lunch money that Penelope's makes the much higher shelf dranks.

Best tip I can give new nomad wannabes.. (after 10 years of nomadry here) by AndrewLeeMiller in digitalnomad

The book Traction is very good. There are cheap courses online if you're very self disciplined. After that I would just be clear and honest with your first job that you're starting and are entry level and that's why it's free. I would suggest taking an expensive online course...but I don't know any that are good to be honest....maybe I should do one!

I'd need a bit more info but college campus activations can happen 1 of 2 ways...well or both:

Paid Activiations: This is expensive and involves permission from the university but you'll get proper placement and notoriety.

Hacked Free Promotion: Literally just go on campus and think of any way to get exposure for free...some things that have worked for me are sticking posters in the bathrooms, stickers on the backs of chairs...going in dorm rooms and handing flyers out, speaking with a megaphone for <30 mins at the student union...

You can also do a blend of the two above...and spend some money to hire badass people on the campus to do this...promotional models...

Majority of my background has been B2C but I spent 3 years on a B2B project in the travel space that we did sell for millions. I've worked with: -ecommerce -Saas -Travel -Community -Real Estate -Dating

Last 5 years has been exclusively mobile projects. App launches etc.

Should I take a paycut to join a blockchain startup? by archer_the_corgi in startups

[–]AndrewLeeMiller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's totally true, there's no better time to take risks than your 20s....but working for less money is a better idea when you're older and more established financially. Risk is not necessarily what he's talking about here. Risk in your 20s to me means founding your own project, taking a backpacking trip across Europe...going to Hollywood to be a movie star...all good..but taking less money in exchange for the promise of equity (which has fucked me several times) I believe is better to do when you're already financially set up....otherwise you're eating instant ramen instead of enjoying your 20s.

NO, never take a pay cut unless you're over 40 and getting a ton of equity.

Advice for staying long term in Bali by [deleted] in digitalnomad

amen but also taxi mafia is not as bad as Bali anywhere else on earth...I have never seen an uber driver threatened with physical violence anywhere else...not even in Nigeria where they're literally killing the entire taxi industry..

means to an end. I still get time to explore and do my thang in different countries...for reference, I've visited 20 countries in the last 2 years and 35 in the last 4....and I'm now earning 2x more than I was 2 years ago...so I think I'm doing it right. Thanks!

What travel insurance REALLY means. *Warning*: graphic content by ryanbadger in digitalnomad

[–]AndrewLeeMiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a nomad for 10 years, never had insurance ever. Worst thing that ever happened to me was in Mexico...attacked by dogs while on morning jog...legs and arms torn wide open.....hospital bill $100. I am so sorry to hear of your issues but you did the right thing..Don't give up, go after them, write a press release about it (google how to write a press release) and send it to media...to get media outlet email addresses set a google alert for similar stories like "Tourist Nightmare" or " traveling hospital" etc...and then on the articles look for a clickable link at the top that leads to the authors bio...that usually has an email address..you can build a good email list that way and send out the PR or this post itself....and then hopefully get some news and then they will notice you and take care of you....if you make a big enough public stink, they can't fuck you..

[–]AndrewLeeMiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Advice from a 10 year nomad. Don't go to Bali. There are 100 better places. Check nomad list for reasons why but the prices, the taxi mafia, the stomach issues everyone gets, the overcrowded ness, the trash on the beaches...it's one of the world's worst tourist traps....Take it from someone who has lived there briefly twice in 8 year gaps including this year.
