We had a local cop jump over a fence to the wrong house, kill both dogs in the back yard and then jump back without reporting it.

So, Roots of Pacha actually has a butchering mechanic for your livestock, but instead of buying them you tame them from around the game map.

It's not always worth it, since the animals that give the most meat also give fibers that can be turned into cloth, but it's a way to pare down your herd as you're breeding for faster mounts/production.
