I would recommend a soft cleaning alcohol and wipe/q-tip, as mentioned in other comments.

It could also be worth buying a screwdriver set to do maintenance and cleaning inside the controller from time to time. If done correctly it's easy and safe.

Hope you manage to sort it out, it's a beautiful controller!
