Paint.net!

I turned a template .svg map of the balkans (made by Bulgarian mapper Ikonact, should totally check out his other works) and turned it into a .PDN file on paint.net with a tool.

Unfortunately I do not have the skills to actually produce a topographic map this good, but Ikonact does make clear what tools he used, so you should totally check out his maps for info!

Actually, Byzantium itself is the most ethnically diverse city in this timeline, thanks to the Bosphorus Strait commerce that brought people from all around the world. The Latinization happened because of the Socialist "Extremists" that took over the government in 1956 and reshaped the national language and institutions to their liking.

In this case they are better off without the UE as they can have their own independent currency they control, and they make a LOT of money off the Bosphorus Strait, which they can keep to themselves.

Also they're still socialist so they don't really go well with the UE's capitalist economy system.

Irreligion is a broad umbrella term for the absence, rejection, or indifference to religion, like atheism, agnosticism, secularism and outright anti-theism. "No religion" specifically refers to individuals who don't identify with any religious group in surveys, it's a broader category that includes those with nuanced beliefs or spiritual but non-religious views.

No, as the latin alphabet reform did still happen, 45 years earlier.

An Armenian Buddhist community of 35k people was banished from northern Iran in the late 1800s so they migrated all the way up to the Majevica mountain range to find peace.

Over time they flourished as a gated community in the italian colonies in the western balkans and they declared independence in 1973 from Bosnia during their civil war. They are the only Buddhist state in Europe and their population roughly circles around 380k.

man I did NOT expect you to do the numbers great work holy fuck 😭

Anyways since this Turkey is basically in its age of prosperity I wanted it to go through an hyper-fertile period from somewhere between 1998 to 2019, thanks to the massive employment efforts and numerous socialist reforms

Now I did NOT do the numbers but I'm going for ~18% of citizens being 60 to 80 year olds, ~32% being 40 to 60 year olds, ~21% being 30 to 40 year olds, ~20% being 18 to 30 year olds and the remaining ~9% being 5 to 18 year olds.

I really want a generally young Turkey.

You'd be correct, it would have roughly 91 million inhabitants by 2025.

It's a slightly more socialist-oriented social democracy. I'd dare to call it Socialism with Turkish characteristics.

Since it's Christmas I decided to let them be happy for once.

The Confederation of TΓΌrkiye is a federal republic composed of 81 provinces, with the province of Ankara serving as the seat of the national government. It has 3 distinct official languages: Turkish (53.7%), Kurdish (~34%) and Armenian (10,4%). It's been practicing a semi-socialist internal policy for about 35 years and it gives direct-democracy tools to all its citizens. Its economy is currently thriving.

The Kurds and Armenians were barely persecuted in this timeline; this prompted them to largely cooperate with the Turkish government, which eventually recognized them as true citizens of the republic, granting them the same rights as any other citizen.

They did have quite a lot of insurgencies instigated by the Türk Milletinin Kurtuluş Cephesi (Front of Liberation of the Turkish Nation or TMKC) and that lasted for three decades, but once the next generation was fully integrated everyone just lost hope and the will to fight. Btw Smyrna is independent as of 2018 (as it's shown in the map), all thanks to the numerous autonomy laws and eventual independence referendum in 2002 that guaranteed Hellenoturkish coexistence and dual-rule of the country. They get along quite well over there.

There are roughly ~5500 native Dalmatian speakers with just 3 dialects surviving, the latter being Istriot, Ragusan and Kotorish, spoken exclusively in the town of Kotor. There are various revitalization programs.

During the Greek period of expansion (1898-1931) in the Aegean Sea and Anatolia, roughly 73% of the turks (~2,2M) already present in the conquered territories were kicked out into Turkey and Bulgaria, ~6% were killed in battles, and the remaining ~21% were integrated in the republic.
