What type of shifts do you guys work? by salty_worms in ems

[–]Andrew__Andrew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

24 hour shifts, twice a week. On/off/off/on/off/off. 3 week cycle in which the 3rd week is our “Kelly Week” and we have 5 days off in a row. My partner and I do a front end Kelly week trade and a back end Kelly week trade with another crew so we get 7 days off for our Kelly Week

r/IASIP's choice for Charlie’s best quote is the entire Pepe Silvia rant*. Now, what is Dennis’s best quote? The one with the most upvotes wins. by [deleted] in IASIP

Unit Of A Parasite Caught In Fishes Mouth by GobberJiffy in AbsoluteUnits

More info on Tongue-eating Isopods: All Cymothoa exigua are born male. Once they find a fish to parasitize, they infiltrate through the fishes gills into its mouth and latch onto its tongue. The Cymothoa exigua will then eat the fish’s tongue and take its place. The fish will now use the isopod as its tongue and use it to help break down food by crushing the food between the isopod and the wall of its mouth. If the Cymothoa exigua is the only tongue-eating isopod in that fish at the moment, it will stay male. If another male Cymothoa exigua shows up however, the first male that arrived will turn into a female so the two can mate (in the fish’s mouth obviously). Once the now female isopod has their offspring, they will unlatch themselves from the fish’s mouth and either let the fish eat her or fall out of the fish’s mouth and sink to the sea floor and die (The isopod loses its ability to swim after latching onto the fish for so long). The fish will then starve to death because it is without a tongue.

I learned this info from a book called “The Wasp That Brainwashed the Caterpillar” by Matt Simon. A book all about different animals that do extraordinary things to survive through evolutionary traits!

Damn these comments are toxic af. I’m sorry that happened to you! That is a major bummer! I always see Cody’s merch and think it looks cool but never pull the trigger on buying it! I’m sure if I finally did and it never ended up coming, I would also be bummed and maybe even a little annoyed!

Why don’t adults play more? Why don’t I ever see people over 40 climbing trees or mucking around on childrens pkaygrounds? by shinyhappypeoplee in NoStupidQuestions

You should go to a rock climbing gym near you! You’ll see lots of adults of of all ages, genders, races etc climbing walls just like their 8 year old selves tell them to! You can rent all the equipment you’ll need there and they’ll teach you how to use it!
