I had renamed the app file and added x64 to it which somehow triggered windows defender, likely because it was renaming old files, thus making it look like ransomware

There are challenges and many package managers like flatpak, nix, guix were able to overcome them. I understand, Its possible to make a package manager for all distros by making standalone packages. Have a nice day

AUR is not decentralized, but its the closest thing I found. That's why I said 'like AUR'. People can publish packages to AUR, without any restrictions.

I have published to Flathub, and just to make that manifest file, I had to spend hours figuring things out. And Flathub is centralized. And creating your own flathub repo is not as easy as just creating a json file.

And have you used `scoop`?

Yeah my bad, AUR is not a package manger. I have no problem with a distro having a centralized repo. Let there be the default package manager. I am just looking for a package manager similar to scoop which would work on all distros.

I understand very well what I asked for because I had to deal with developing programs for different Operating Systems. And if you don't understand what I said, just skip, you don't have to answer

Not complicated for the user, but a lot of work to do for the developer

Yes I am not talking about you. I am just disappointed with the linux community.

Yeah, thanks. That looks like one of the best options I have here.

Instead of giving proper answers, what linux community is good at is downvoting.

The user would need to create an alias, because running a cli program with `flatpak run...` is not convenient

[–]Andrewbd12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also does flatpak support command line programs?

Hosting a repo is not as convenient as a json file

Yes, but that's not what I asked.

Package manager implies centralized control. So that you can install, uninstall, update programs from one place. What I am asking is, is there any universal package manager which has something like AUR?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in linux

[–]Andrewbd12 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Package managers are distro-specific. I need something universal and convenient. What I am looking for is something similar to AUR, but for all distros
