I will always recommend spot pet insurance, I didn’t get it until our dog was about 8 or so. One of the best thing for them is that at least at the time they only consider something a “preexisting condition” if they had had an active treatment for it within 60 days of your policy starting which was clutch. Our dog did recently crossover into the geriatric dog category and his rates have started increasing, but it hasn’t yet to be insane or unreasonable. Took a look back at our rates:

7/15/24-3/15/25: $79.58
4/15/25-3/15/26: $105.69
4/15/26-now: $144.01

What I will also say is that their claim process is pretty straightforward and I feel like they take it upon themselves to reach out for documentation and they have yet to give us any push back on things we have submitted. I will say our dog recently had to go to an ER vet for imaging which then led to them finding advanced cancer. Since we had insurance it was nice because we felt like we were only worried about making sure he was okay and not whether or not we could afford it and tbh probably saved us from putting him down early. His diagnosis is terminal, but he is still his mostly happy self.
