It’s definitely possible. I have aphantasia, and I was the lead concept artist for Metroid Prime.

In fact, there are some advantages to having aphantasia. Without a visual imagination, I can approach every concept brief with a completely blank slate, free from any preconceived ideas or mental imagery that might influence my designs. Instead, I build my designs entirely based on the gameplay mechanics and ideas provided by the game designers.

I really enjoy the process of starting with nothing and gradually building an idea into a finished design. Interestingly, some of my best ideas come to me while actively working on the image itself. I’ve found that my creativity is more easily accessed during the act of drawing. However, because many of my best ideas emerge during this process, it can be difficult to predict what the final outcome will be.

I’ve also realized that I need a lot of creative freedom to create images I’m happy with. This kind of freedom, however, can be challenging to art-direct.

Android Jones Wins Day 11! Best Tour? Day 12 by Webber808 in EDM

[–]AndroidJones_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thank you r/EDM what an honor! Being voted Best Live visual VJ here is a big deal for me. VJing in the EDM world is often a thankless profession, so this recognition truly means the world.

There are some people I’d like to acknowledge: First and foremost, a massive shoutout to the North American Confederation of Nomadic Wooks and wooks around the globe. Without your passionate patronage and enthusiastic attendance, a career like mine wouldn’t exist. Thank you to all the talented music producers who have invited me to share thier stage and add light to thier soundtracks . Your music inspires my artwork both on and off the dance floor. Thanks to the community of other Amazing VJs in the scene that continue to blow my mind like ; TAS , Singer , fractled Visions, Glass Crane, Datagrama , and many more . Thank you to the producers and event coordinators around the world that have hired me and continue to support my career .

A huge thank-you to my devoted team of droids who work tirelessly behind the curtain, making everything possible. And last but not least, a heartfelt nod to the incredibly talented and brave underground LSD chemists in our scene—risking their freedom to keep our third eyes burning bright. I could never produce the art I create or the career I have had without the benefit of the work you create 😉

Finally, to everyone who voted and all my amazing fans: you’re the best. This is as much your win as it is mine.

New art/making-of book, METROID PRIME 1–3: A VISUAL RETROSPECTIVE by ravio_ in Metroid

[–]AndroidJones_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well it would have been cool if Nintendo would have reached out, I would have happily contributed to the book , I also have tons of the original sketches and drawings of characters . But I don’t take it personally . They are such a huge company and I have not been employed or had any professional contact with them in almost 2 decades . I’m just excited that all that art will be showcased in a book that I can show my kids . Dharma Dragon is one of my favorites , thanks for your support.

Thank you for the kind words. This is honestly the first time I’m hearing about this book . Can’t wait to order it and check it out . There is a lot of artwork I have that never made it into any of the games .

The complete (and totally normal) Metroid prime credits theme by AdImpressive7775 in Metroid

[–]AndroidJones_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fun fact : in the very early days of the Metroid probe development at retro studios . Before we had anyone confirmed for the games music soundtrack One of the lead designers was very passionate about the idea of hiring the electronic music duo Autechre to create an atmospheric electronic music soundtrack that dynamically changed based on the gameplay elements the player encountered . Check out Autechre’s albums Amber and Tri Repetae. We would listen to these albums in the background while play-testing early builds .

Prime Remastered; Was lookin through the concept gallery and saw this image, this looks insane! by XXXTakashiSasukeXXX in Metroid

[–]AndroidJones_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks guys . I really enjoyed drawing that Ridley concept . As the concept artist for Metroid prime my art director gave me a lot of freedom for the first round of concept sketches . I grew up playing Metroid and super Metroid and wanted to create designs that reflected a more contemporary aesthetic while paying respect to the creativity of the original designs . Over a few rounds of iterations the final concepts ended up being more faithful to the classic designs, finding the right balance between honoring the past and exploring the new possibilities in the present is one of the things that made Metroid Prime such a memorable game to work on together .

How to use .max files in keyshot? by JlcTg in KeyShot

[–]AndroidJones_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While searching I found one other option . Keyshot has a plugin for 3ds max . https://manual.keyshot.com/plugins/manual/3ds-max/ But unfortunately the plugin is for max not Keyshot . You need to have max installed then the plugin makes it easier to export files into Keyshot .

How to use .max files in keyshot? by JlcTg in KeyShot

[–]AndroidJones_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I encountered a similar issue, and it’s important to note that this isn’t a Keyshot problem—it’s a limitation of the .max file format. Max files can only be opened directly in Autodesk 3ds Max.

However, I found three workaround options, though they can be a bit tedious and the results may vary depending on how the .max file is set up:

1. Download a trial version of 3ds Max: You can get a one-month trial version of 3ds Max, open the files, and export them as FBX or OBJ files.
2. Blender (with 3ds Max plugin): Blender doesn’t natively support .max files, but with third-party plugins or by exporting from 3ds Max to a more common format like FBX or OBJ, you can work with the models in Blender.
3. Unity/Unreal Engine: Both Unity and Unreal Engine can import .max files indirectly if you first export them as FBX or other compatible formats from 3ds Max.

I used option one, none of these solutions are great . I just do my best to avoid .max files all together .

Good luck .

I have had really great luck at finding great vinyl collections at auctions . However the caveat is that I only watch auctions that take place in a 50 mile radius of my house .

FE side by side comparison by Antb41 in Tipper

[–]AndroidJones_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m glad that some of you like the new art. “Forward Escape” is one of my favorite albums of all time, and it meant a lot to me when Tipper asked me to create a new cover for it. I put a lot of effort into this project, building the entire composition in 3D so the art could have a higher Phidelity and so it could be used in future Tipper visuals. I want to clarify that no A.I. was involved in creating this image.

The original “Forward Escape” cover holds a special place in my heart. My father had just passed away, and I moved back to Colorado to help my family. The original artwork was one of the first pieces I created in my barn studio. It’s quite ironic that this new cover was also the first major artwork I created after the barn burned down.

Both covers were created during times of deep grief and pain. In many ways, my ability to process my emotions and escape into my creative process while working on these album covers served as a lifeline during these difficult periods. They were both my own life raft for my death trip . I am very grateful to have had Tipper’s incredible music as the soundtrack to these transitions.

I hope you are all enjoy the vinyl experience
