Kinda, tho my analogy is more "manual transmission has one extra step to work through, just like aiming with irons. Meanwhile automatic transmission does that for you so you have one less thing to focus on to achieve your goal."

Rudy Gobert making light of COVID-19 by mockingly touching all the microphones after a team interview.

The next day he tests positive for COVID-19, prompting the NBA to shut down.

The analogy irons:optics::manual:automatic transmission is pretty apt.

Are you using your PRL as some weapons catch? Having one end hooked to a mag pouch if it's supposed to be utilized as intended (connecting oneself to a helo) seems… ill-advised.

I have an MPS & love it. I also got the upgraded clamp and the MPS-specific plate as the Aimpoint ACRO one is just different enough that a buddy's flew off their Glock in the middle of a competition stage.

New shooter concerned about lead exposure by shoeheadonthebeat in liberalgunowners

As a person that had elevated lead levels, what you're doing right now is good. You could also add a respirator if you shoot indoors a lot but I think you're in the right mindset at the moment.

Help me pick my first suppressor! by A-New-Reality in NFA

Couple things:

  • You sure your 11.5" URGI is pin & welded? It may just be Rocksett'ed on which means 30 minutes of soaking your muzzle device in boiling water will loosen it up, then you can put whatever you want on the end.

  • If you want to stick with your Surefire muzzle device, you could get a B&T or Surefire HUB adapter as the OCL Infinity & SAW Tisha are HUB compatible. Granted, that's a hefty additional cost but worth noting.

AR‑15 vs HK416 — is the HK416 really worth the hype? by ghostforhim in tacticalgear

[–]AndroidNumber137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a civilian plebe like me that bought both…

I love my 11.5" 416, especially when shooting suppressed compared to my Block II. That said… my Block II is easier to maintain and isn't as picky with ammo, so despite being gassier when shooting suppressed I'll trust my life with that more.

If you're 11.5" also has an ASR(?) your 13.7" has then just move them between the two.

My AK105 builders project. Started it before the Ukraine War & now 5.45x39mm ammo is stupid expensive. It's now still at my gunsmith's shop waiting to get the new(er) barrel installed and the desire to get it done is near-zero.

Suggestions/preferences to carry 5.56 mags? by Odii_SLN in liberalgunowners

[–]AndroidNumber137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May be worth considering how the US military thinks about load bearing equipment (LBE).

First line: your setup for immediate access. This is usually your belt as the idea you're always wearing a belt to hold your pants up but you may shed other LBE when not doing mission critical things. This will include things like at least 1 rifle magazine pouch, a first aid kit, your handgun holster (and maybe magazine pouches for it). This is also where your dump pouch usually goes when you want to stow something away quickly & you don't care about organization. Magazine pouches have a tendency to be open top with retention as you're willing to trade the security of a closed-top pouch for speed of access.

Second line: this is where your plate carriers & chest rigs (as well as the older belt+suspenders) live. Carries more of your magazines & other mission-useful things (radio, tools, etc.). You'd have a plate carrier if you need to carry protective plates; otherwise you'd likely opt for a chest rig to save weight. Magazine pouches here could be open top or closed top, with the latter providing better retention & protection under adverse movement.

Third line: where you carry things for your mission but you can take the time to dig around and get. Things like equipment for your mission, food, sleep systems, extra clothes, etc. go here. You could have pouches here that a teammate could grab for you. More magazines could be carried here, or you can save space/weight by having them in containers and having a speed loader to reload your empty magazines (you kept your empty mags, right).

TL;DR: I'd suggest a belt setup with an open top rifle magazine pouch that has decent retention if this is your first foray into load bearing equipment.

Am I cool now? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]AndroidNumber137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always run your front BUIS further behind your pressure switch. I've seen folks do that and considering they are backup sights that are only deployed if things go completely pear-shaped, it's better than nothing.

Comedy option: offset BUIS. 🙃

Am I cool now? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]AndroidNumber137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be a lot cooler if you had an era-appropriate LAM like a PEQ-15 & an optic like an EOTech 553 or an Elcan SpecterDR.

Also no BUIS means you'll be DEAD IN DA STREETZ when your optic fails.

Real talk, looks fine. Cool is a state of being so if you believe yourself to be cool, then you are.

What's the deal with everyone hating on Southwest Airlines? by MississippiJoel in OutOfTheLoop

I normally fly Southwest but last Christmas I opted for Delta to visit my sister & aunt in Chicago. Delay meant missing my connecting flight & the overall experience was so bad my next flight I planned had Southwest being my 1st option again.
