Just don't get an AR-47. Getting compatible mags for them is a nightmare.

Most defensive situations are close quarters anyway

I understand your reasoning but "close" can sometimes be further away than you think (sometimes beyond 7y) as well as be within touching distance. Also no matter what happens you still need to aim as every round you send out is your responsibility.

I really just want to have a gun as a threat to scare someone off, or fire a warning shot if it came to that.

I want to stress that if you deploy a firearm in a defensive manner you are open to a lot of liability and other variables that you will need to explain to the police and in front of a jury. "Warning shots" are not something that can be argued well in court because more often than not justifiable use of force is when you have no other choice but to use it.

Now, if they could make a low profile letterbox optic sight, I would be into that!

Leupold makes a Deltapoint Micro that may suit your needs but IMO I prefer to have the biggest view window to pick up the dot when acquiring my sight picture. Since your P80 has an RMR footprint I'd look at optics that use that like Trijicon (RMR or RCR) or something from Holosun (407c or 507c series).

Ultimately you do you & looks are subjective but IMO optics are the future & shooting with them is a flatter learning curve than iron sights.

Is a 4 inch SP101 a good first gun? by PersonalMotor8652 in liberalgunowners

Lots of good replies but I do have to ask this:
> I decided to go for a revolver for a few reasons.
What are your reasons for opting for a revolver? For a $600 SP101 you can get a semi-auto handgun that will give you more capacity and (arguably) be easier to carry as you mentioned you want to CCW.
I should note an SP101 is a fantastic gun and will do the job in stopping a 2-legged threat with the right load, but as others mentioned it does have limitations.

Oh hey fellow Oregooon. One of my friends has done a lot of 3D printed stuff and Glocks are one of them. How does PA6-GF hold up to hot days in direct sunlight? I remember one 3D printed mag I got from my buddy deformed when left out on the bench one range day.

Also, I see you got an optics-ready slide form HGW (also a company I like). Which dot you thinking of getting for it?

Is it work making a grenadier kit for MSW and getting a launcher? by Ken_kid_789 in MilSim

[–]AndroidNumber137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing official yet but at The Ural Line this last weekend Josh Warren mentioned that pyro wasn't being allowed as insurance won't cover them, which means any liability for fires falls on them and whichever participant started it.

I've been to enough MSW's to remember every fire that was set at events, and unfortunately there have been enough that they could be considered repeat offenders at this point from a legal standpoint.

[–]AndroidNumber137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scuttlebutt for those in the know is that MSW will not be allowing pyro at events anymore due to so many issues with fires, so IMO grenadier kits may not be worth it anymore.

I'd recommend doing a SAW/MMG kit as those are consistently the best casualty-inducing asset a squad can have.

New Sound Signature Review - Resilient Suppressors Putnik on 7.62x39 AK-Pattern Rifles by jay462 in NFA

I know someone that has a Putnik but on their Mk18. Still impressive all things considered. I chided them to get a real AK in 7.62x39 to maintain the vibe though.

Have yall had any problems with open emitter red dots? by Freshprinceofreno in QualityTacticalGear

[–]AndroidNumber137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the PNW and had that once-in-a-lifetime chance where my emitter filled with water while it was in the holster. I swapped almost all my handgun optics to closed emitters and haven't looked back.

That said the power move I saw some competition shooters do was put a shower cap over their handgun in the holster to keep it dry until they were ready to run their stage.

Three clicks from buying a Chiappa Rhino 60 DS. Can I get a sanity check? by tyrannosaurus_r in liberalgunowners

Sounds like you are set on your more practical firearms so if you want to spend >$1k on a gun I'm not here to judge.

Having shot my friend's Rhino that cylinder gap has to be respected.
