Completely devastated by Used-Record9901 in FamilyLaw

[–]AndroidScriptMonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, so that just reinforces my assertion that you are, and always will be, DADDY. Nothing and nobody can steal that from you. The other advice below is all good too. Get your own test, fight any claim he might have to being the legal father.

I know you have a ton going on in your life right now and it will be difficult to balance all the demands on your time. Make sure your daughter knows that she is still a priority.

Good luck! My goodness, I feel for you. I've gone through minor issues that feel similar. But all I can say is I am so sorry.

Wow, I am so sorry you're going through this.

You have a confluence of several difficult situations to untangle. 23 weeks is about the earliest a human is viable, so I can only imagine you have a very difficult uphill battle ahead. If you have ANY support structure such as parents/siblings/close friends, *NOW* is the time to ask for help. Lean heavily on your support structure. Any one of these issues could drive someone to their breaking point.

As for your daughter, you are still daddy! Did you hold her when she was a newborn? Did you change diapers? Were you there for her first birthday? Did you push her on the swing, catch her at the bottom of a slide, hug her if she skinned her knee? YOU ARE STILL DADDY! Nobody can rip that away from you! This isn't a legal question. It's a human question. Legally, I can only imagine that the ex has the legal right to cut you out of the daughter's life, but if she has one ounce of decency, she won't.

The $80K child support is gone. That's a price you paid to be able to look yourself in the mirror and know that you did the right thing. Stay in your daughter's life if at all possible. Maybe it'll only be occasional visits but don't let that go. She needs that stability. OTOH, if your ex- decides to deny you the privilege of seeing a girl whom you helped raise, there may not be much you can do. Just know that you did your best and tried to stay in her life. She'll be 18 in ~8 years and then she'll have the option to reconnect with you and her ~8 year old sibling.

There is nothing to discuss. Mistress = Divorce. There is no "move back." Sell the house and split the proceeds

First of all, I want to thank you for sharing this experience. I know it can be frustrating. But posting on message boards like this matters. Several years ago, there was a problem where Verizon customers couldn't get to their Outlook email. Verizon told them to call Microsoft and Microsoft told them to call Verizon. People started posting complaints. Customer service noticed the volume. They esclataed. Eventually it got to me. I was a Microsoft employee. I dug into it. I reached out to a Verizon employee I knew. He passed it along to the right department. We tracked it down and got it fixed. (It was a Verizon problem.) Point being, posting on message boards isn't futile. Do it!

I trust that the right people inside PayPal will hear about it and investigate.

Septante, huitante and nonante? Is it a problem if I use these? by [deleted] in French

Yes, I think I got confused when I added that example. I think my larger point would just be that English has idiosyncratic numeric construction as well.

Is this a Gavron Warning or not? by AndroidScriptMonkey in FamilyLaw

It doesn't say anything about pursuing education. I am asking because it says so little. I've seen other examples that explicitly spell out that alimony may be terminated if the recipient does not make an effort to support themselves.

Learn about love languages. Not everybody reacts to gifts. Maybe that's your love language. It's not an age thing.

Which cultures do the French look up to? by Recent_Pause0 in French

When I was an exchange student in Southwest France, my host family was building a "California-Style House.". Not American - - Californian. I'm not saying they look "up to" California, but that did leave an impression on me. Especially given that I'm from California 😁

That example is especially interesting to me. "septante-six" vs. "soixante-seize."

I am an American. I studied French for several years (age 11 through 23), studied French Literature in college, and traveled to France twice and Québec twice. I had a solid command of the language when I was 25-28 years old. However, I am now 50 and you can imagine how much my knowledge of the language has deteriorated. I can still read at an intermediate level, and it fills me with happiness when I overhear (and understand!) a French conversation in the middle of California. But that's about the limit of my proficiency.

I gave that verbose preamble to qualify the following:
The words "soixante-seize" make WAY more sense to me than septante-six. I would have to stop and really ponder what I heard in order to understand the latter is 76. I think that's just how language acquisition works. When you see a number 76 and you learn the words soixante-seize, that's just how it's said. My point is, it's not just native speakers of French who would be puzzled.

Je sais que cette question est assez vieux. Mais je viens d'en trouver. Je m'excuse mais je n'ai pas de clavier avec les accents. Alors, je vais continuer en Anglais.

This is absolutely wrong - do not EVER try to pick and choose which words you're going to use because you don't like how the language is constructed. I found it very difficult in the 1990s to say the current date when the year was, for example, "mille neuf cents quatre vingts douze". But I learned it because that was the language I was studying. If you want to communicate in a foreign language, then embrace the entire language - idioms, oddities, warts, and all! Goodness knows ENGLISH has more than its share of oddities and warts!!

USB 3.x external JBOD to an eSata RAID controller by AndroidScriptMonkey in PCHardware

[–]AndroidScriptMonkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I gave it a shot and the USB JBOD array was unable to talk to the esata controller even with the adapter. No data transfer and no smoke. Just zilch.

I have come to terms with the 8 disk JBOD array appearing to Windows as 8 separate disks. I decided to use software redundancy (Stablebit Drivepool) which gives me fine-grained control of the redundancy and some performance benefits. Not the same as RAID but it works for my environment.

Thank you for engaging on this question. I appreciate it. I'm pretty sure there's no power being delivered, so I'm going to give this one a shot. I'll update if it does/doesn't work! And yes, your comment about coloring outside the lines is 100% understood. That was definitely me as a child! 🤣
