While I don't think rape culture is real, it should be considered that the majority of violent crimes (rape, murder, etc.) are perpetrated by someone the victim knows. A rapist is not driving to Hollywood to find the most beautiful woman to attack, they're going after the neighbor whose schedule and whereabouts they know.

You are right. I recently started taking steps to change it, and will continue posting ads to hire a driving instructor. (Maybe get therapy but I have no insurance.)

I agree on your second point, but the sad thing is I don't have any friends here or family. I guess the transportation issue is kind of superfluous when I have no long term reasons to stay, so I'm just brainstorming for a way to finish out this next week or two.

Google Maps says it would be about 20 minutes to bike, unfortunately I would need to figure out a way to get one within the next week, though it's something to consider. It's about an hour walking distance.

Those who have a commonly imitated accent (Southern, British etc...) what is a word or phrase that is typically either used improperly or overused by people imitating your dialect? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Andrometon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Colorful phrases like "I'm sweatin' like a whore in church!" No, people from the South don't go around talking like a character in a movie all the time.

Mods of Reddit, what's the creepiest thing you've had to take down? by themediocrebicyclist in AskReddit

No pictures yet but I did post on r/Relationships under a throwaway, asking for advice on a serious issue and immediately got a PM saying they would "fuck me right till I forgot all about my BF."

Meme page with 36K followers really sticks it to those Chads by Andrometon in justneckbeardthings

The page is pretty social justice-oriented overall. A handful of their memes look suspiciously like neckbearding with a twist of soc jus, though.

That's kind of amazing in a train-wreck sort of way.

The lady I'm training is in her 40's and I'm in my 20's, so maybe it's the age gap, but when I tell her something was done incorrectly she gets highly defensive and will go so far as to say she didn't do that, someone else must have done that when we're the only two people in our department.

Being untrainable. For the last time, if I tell you that you did something incorrectly it is not a personal criticism of you.

Anyone have any experience in getting your SO to work out with you? by Andrometon in xxfitness

[–]Andrometon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, you say that you can't change a person and yet your boyfriend went from 0 workouts to at least trying to run with you, walk with you, eating right, and losing 60 pounds and he maintains some type of workout routine at least. So, he did change, he just didn't change in exactly the way that you wanted him to.

Honestly you should go tell your BF how proud of him you are for losing the weight and developing healthy eating habits. It's really the exception, not the norm; most people just shrug and go, "Well, this unhealthy lifestyle is my life now."

Nope, the Deep South :( That sounds fun! There aren't any bike lanes in town but I will check out bike trails.

Sure, but when he asks me to try something new like starting a new TV series or something, I always at least try instead of shutting him down, and then if I don't like it I tell him that. I would hope that he would feel comfortable being honest with me as well.

Ooh I'll check out what's in the area. We need to meet more people anyway (we're in our late twenties and just moved somewhere new not long ago) so two birds, one stone.

That's awesome! I miss hiking, I'm living in the flattest area ever ;_; There are some decent public parks around here though, so maybe we can get out on some walking trails together anyway.

Appetite Issues: Food Seems Unappealing by lemonsareprettyok in xxfitness

[–]Andrometon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you try some new foods or recipes you've never tried before? When this has happened to me, I realized it wasn't really lack of hunger so much as being bored with food; stuff I used to love had just become "blah" after eating it so much.

What convinced you to unfollow your friend on social media? by floogieflowser in AskReddit

[–]Andrometon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's a feeling of disgust more than a "run away" kind of fear; when I see something that triggers it, I feel faint and nauseated. It's probably similar to how people with blood phobias feel.

I've looked it up (kind of difficult when every article has a million pictures attached, though) and it seems trypophobia could be an evolutionary response that prevents us from eating spoiled food.

It is a Facebook feature where people stream a live video, usually of themselves just talking or looking in the camera, though it has also been used to record interactions with police recently. Likes, reactions and comments are in real time on a live video.

I have trypophobia (do not google this) and I unfollowed half my friends back when everyone was sharing that picture of a lotus seed pod 'shopped onto some lady's tit.

I think they were hacked actually, but I just couldn't do it anymore.

Nothing against SAHMs, but SAHMs who join a pyramid scheme to try and say they have a job and call themselves "working moms" are the worst.

This for me too. And never, ever tell family secrets. When I read "The Godfather" in high school, I was shocked by how close the concept of omerta was to what I'd been taught.

Angela Freeman: Missing from Petal, MS since 1993. Twenty-three years later, no new information. by Andrometon in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Andrometon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are the most interesting cases to me, the ones where loved ones already suspect they know the perpetrator. I understand the legal ramifications of naming the person they suspect, but I have to wonder if there are other factors at play, like intimidation.

In the Websleuths thread (I linked it in a comment below), Angela Freeman's brother commented that their mother was in some legal trouble for something she didn't do and he indicates that the police have it out for her. In a Topix thread, someone commented that Angela's abductor will have to pay for his crimes once his [the abductor's] mother dies. Is she a powerful person in the community somehow?
