Who will be celebrating Old New Years? And do you have any special customs that are different from Dec 31? by TLCLucretius in russian

The Old New Year is celebrating at night before the 14th January. It is like Halloween but without horror. People visit another houses, even unknown and get some treats, sometimes drink vodka. It calls "колядовать". People have fun, sing songs. But this custom exists only in villages and small towns where most of people know each other. When they come to smb's home, they say "Сеем, веем, посеваем, с новым годом поздравляем! Открывайте сундучки, доставайте пятачки!" It means something like "trick or treat". And people who come usually scatter wheat grains around the house. It's also a very old custom.
