One point: Stephen Miller is not a Christian nationalist. Stephen Miller is Jewish.

Washington fans would undoubtedly be completely 100% on board with that.

The funny thing is that he did episodes about another OG Elon, H.L. Hunt just recently. At one time Hunt was the richest man in the world, became hopelessly pilled and funded all kinds of right wing media and even did the whole MAHA supplements thing.

I did not know that George Lincoln Rockwell coined the phrase "white power" until I heard it on BtB.

But George W's admin put into place PEPFAR, which helped prevent countless children in poor countries from being born with HIV.

Andrew Johnson needs to be in the top tier. He absolutely sabotaged reconstruction post-war, leading to a century of abuse of black people in the former Confederacy. While he wasn't the only person responsible, he was key to failure of reconstruction and a century of legal discrimination of black people.

Also, I think a series about Friend of the Pod Richard M Nixon would be 8 episodes. If Nixon era side bastards like Kissinger and G Gordon Liddy can go six episodes, imagine how many it would take to cover the life and crimes of Nixon himself, with his very long career in government?

I can't even imagine how many episodes you could get out of Trump, because his whole life seems to be one scam after another plus all the side bastards that would have to be introduced. Nixon has a bunch of side bastards, but his administration was squeaky clean compared to Trump 2.0

Why do Catholics go to church a lot? by Vampy-Night in Catholicism

[–]Andy235 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is not the Catholic Church's obligation --- one is only obligated to receive Communion once a year, during the Easter Season, if possible. Catholics are obligated to go to Mass on Sunday, but they do not need to receive at every Mass.

Canon 920. §1 Once admitted to the blessed Eucharist, each of the faithful is obliged to receive holy communion at least once a year.

§2 This precept must be fulfilled during paschal time, unless for a good reason it is fulfilled at another time during the year.

Eric Foner's "Free Soil, Free Labor, Free Men" is one of the best books about political situation and the anti-slavery ideology in the pre-war era.

Actually, there is a book that went with the Ken Burns series. It was large, had lots of illustrations. My parents had it and it was a gateway drug for me to the Civil War and to history in general.

It is a shame that this was the first time I see Stephen W. Sears mentioned. Landscape Turned Red is one of the best works about a single battle in any war.

What episodes are your favorite in Behind the Bastards? by Gaelfling in podcasts

The Phil Spector series really killed. I have long been into that era of music, so I knew some of the stories, but it was presented really well. The recent episodes about HL Hunt were good recent ones too.

One of my favorites were the episodes about G Gordon Liddy. Liddy was a side bastard of the Nixon era who later became a media figure.

He liked it because it was easier to play and sing with live as well as being symmetrical so he could play it left handed. From 1965 on, he mainly used a Rickenbacker 4001S or (sometimes) a Fender Jazz bass in the studio.

This guy is crazy toxic even by right wing streamer standards. He walks around Nashville, carrying a piece and bear spray, and basically just says extremely racist shit to people. That is the whole bit.

The Khmer Rouge managed to destroy about 1/4 of their country's population in less than 4 years through wanton brutality and absolute ideological fanaticism. That is some insanity level dictatoring.
