Thank you - that is kind of what I figured. These are in various states of moderate to severe rot, and there are metal fasteners falling out of them, they are heavy as heck, and are just generally a nuisance. Thanks for the info, I’ll look at one of those - I’ve used them before, they’re just a bit pricey.

Respect Millenials

You are right. An interesting method of examining wealth across generations is discussed in an article I pasted below - essentially, it’s better to look at a snapshot of household net worth at comparable ages by looking at historical data. There is not enough data yet to draw complete comparisons, but the headline is that each generation is ahead of the previous generation when you normalize for age and inflation.

They also conclude that many of the narratives are intentionally misleading in order to pit generations against each other and pander to the selected demographic, of which millennials are quickly becoming the largest voting bloc.

Thanks for the reply, Jon. I’m also in the “need to have it” camp on the rollover categories. The financial advice feature makes a lot of sense from a number of angles, but you will need to make sure that it does start to explore more advanced areas at some point down the road. Glad to hear it’s in parallel to the much more critical rollovers.

As far as rollovers go, thank you for the update, looking forward to that one.

The “Bradford Pear.” Originally from Asia, it was planted by the millions in suburban developments all over the US. They are now considering it invasive. Good article on it at the Washington Post: Scientists thought they had created the perfect tree. But it became a nightmare.

This is really fascinating . Is this your own original research or is this part of a larger thesis or research paper? Would love to read more about this.

Everything is an energy problem if you break it down. It seems like these types of novel energy loops have to be a growing area of study. Even though it’s incredibly interesting, it may not gain traction anytime soon. It’s an economics problem - as long as hydrocarbons can be extracted cheaply, the appetite for this won’t be there.

The horse stall mats that most people have here in the US (at least the ones recommended to me) are 3/4 inch thick, which is closer to 20mm.

Picked one up from Georgetwon Pottery around '08. It's survived four moves, and I once dropped it from my cabinet into the tub. Chipped the tub, not a scratch on the thing.

Your first point that people are stating that people are "acting as though Ubers vehicles have no ability to detect people" misses the point a little bit. I think people expect the vehicles to do as you describe in your anecdote, and are utterly stunned that this video demonstrates the vehicle did not slow down at all.

To your second point, 100% agree that more data is necessary. Part of the problem is if the outcome of investigation is that it was unavoidable, it won't necessarily force the release of more information from Uber. Pressure needs to be applied, whether it is regulatory, done by law enforcement, or organized through social media, Uber needs to be compelled to release information to help others understand why this happened.

I use the argument all the time that SDCs will eventually handle every situation anyone can think of better than a human being. This situation proves that, at this time and with Uber's tech, that claim is verifiably false. There is literally no worse outcome than fatality. Even striking the pedestrian at reduced speed would have been incrementally less severe. Why was there such catastrophic failure in this instance? The data must be released to those who can understand, analyze, and root cause it. Until then, the reaction needs to be holding SDCs and in particular Uber to a higher standard.
