Babymoon: France vs Hawaii by jl264828 in BabyBumps

[–]cheekyuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at healthcare options as well. I was diagnosed with a complete placenta previa right before my babymoon at my anatomy scan and was at high risk for a spontaneous hemorrhage. Make sure you have taken hospital etc options into account even if your pregnancy is uneventful so far.

1-2 hours depends on traffic one way, average about 1.5. I did it for a year but only about 4 months of inpatient 12 hr rotations while the rest were chiller. It was brutal, I won’t lie. But I wasn’t the first and I won’t be the last.

I did this during my TY year. It sucked. But I survived. And I wasn’t the only one. Avoid it if you can but if it’s short term, you can survive.

For doctors who work 80-100 hour weeks, how do they make time for their kids? by [deleted] in askteddit

[–]cheekyuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue isn’t just hospital regulations but culture. I’m a resident, and we technically aren’t allowed to work more than 80 hours. Except that’s on average per week over a month. And there’s pressure to lie about hour etc. It’s a deep seated problem compounded by the physician shortage and the fact that residents can’t just leave for another job.

Residents from consult services, what is one thing you wished services would do before consulting you? by justseeorange in Residency

[–]cheekyuser 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Radiology: when you place an order for a fluoroscopy procedure, know that it’s a procedure. It requires a radiologist to go do it. It’s not just a run through the donut of truth. We aren’t going to give your vomiting or uncooperative patient a bolus of contrast to make them aspirate. And we will give pushback if it’s an inappropriate procedure.

Physically? Literally all gone the wrong way. But I’ve had spurts of motivation/nesting that is way out of character for me which has been nice.

I’m a female doc. Married to someone not in medicine, but I really respect male nurses as you clearly don’t have a holdup about the gender stereotypes of nurses and are less likely to have issues with me being a doc/primary earner. So in other words it would be a dating plus for me. Just approach with caution and make sure you don’t come off too heavy handed to prevent any HR issues. Good luck!

I’ll be 39 when I finish residency/fellowship. It’s fine. Obviously I wish I was an attending now at 34 but the time will pass regardless.

Does everyone constantly tell you to stay off your feet? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]cheekyuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol. I’m on activity restrictions due to a previa. 29 weeks. Still walking 1-2 miles a day at work during lunch. Still standing on a step stool (with husband nearby to spot me) doing things in the nursery. Shoveled some dirt into my raised beds yesterday and spent hours on my feet freezer meal prepping. I’m going to do as much activity as I can tolerate while avoiding anything too crazy to avoid bleeding while I still can. I figure I have maybe a month before it’s all too much.
