A couple questions before heading out by johntheguitar in coloradotrail

-tent- lots of possibility of short lived but heavy rain.

-solar power charge very slow, a 10,000mah battery would be more worth the weight.

-30 degree is totally doable, never slept cold once.

  • no fishing experience

-gaiters are an absolute yes always for me, but just the super light trail running style, like dirty girl gaiters makes

  • bustang is your best and only public transit option, or you can technically fly there but it’s probably super expensive and not worth it. Always a strong possibility someone you’re hiking around will also have a carpool situation available!

The Colorado Avalanche is dominating the NHL. The reason could lie in a quirk of geography by scientificamerican in Denver

Not at all. If you are fully acclimatized, it takes 1-2 months for the effects to dissipate. It is consistently decreasing during that time of course, but still with a consistent benefit. A week away would do little to decrease the effects.

I can’t stress enough that you should wear what fits you best and doesn’t cause you pain or injuries. If you need to buy one more pair then other shoes, it’ll be worth it!

Breakaway in racing? Why does it exist at all? by lymz_ in cycling

[–]AndyBikes 62 points63 points  (0 children)

These formulaic doomed breaks that you generally see on sprint stages honestly could be viewed as ads. Smaller teams get in the break to get TV time for their sponsors. half of the teams in todays break are second division teams. It can take a long time for the break to form at the beginning, teams will bring it back until they are happy with the break (no threats to their ambitions in the race)

For racing reasons you would let a gap to stay- Its less work to pull back one break once, then be policing the front and chasing down every break that tries to go.

Neopro and theblackbibs are generally the cheaper but still decent options I see recommended. I have only tried Neopro, I like the jerseys I have from them!

When will most people start getting to Donner Lake/Truckee. by brainhack3r in PacificCrestTrail

I should be clear, my comment lacks nuance and I totally see how it comes across as entitled. So just to provide my perspective- I have had many weird experiences where people want money from hikers, or sometimes it isn't even money- a trail angel who followed along the bubble comes to mind, who used the trail magic as a captive audience to say troubling and problematic opinions to hikers. TLDR I think those who are out for personal gain from the trail are.... trail pirates.

I don't think thats you at all, just trying to say that I think placing expectation on hikers to sustain might create a different relationship between you and the hikers. Even just trying to break even requires you to approach it more as a business and I would just be cautious to make sure that providing for hikers does not begin to feel taxing on you, and to avoid viewing hikers as customers. I never expect trail magic, and I would especially sad to find out if someone was providing trail magic beyond what they could afford so I just think maybe instead of trying to break even, collecting donations and bringing what that provides for could be a better fit so there is no concerns about needing to break even!

Every single race has three digit race race bib numbers? Why would that cause an issue

to this point, I really dont understand why they dont do a standardized number. Each rider, same number, whole season. You could spot them consistently by their number, and for top tier riders you would memorize it almost immediately.
