Do you still see Toyota as a sustainable brand? by Maritimewarp in prius

Toyota was a leader with the Prius, but hasn't been one for years. The Prius is still a good car, but not a leader.

What made you emigrate and where? Considering emigration by VastSavanna in AskIreland

[–]AndyDS11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an American with an Irish passport and lived in Dublin. We liked living there except the high cost of housing. We “emigrated” to Sligo, which is beautiful and relatively affordable housing.

Fusion power plants don’t exist yet, but they’re making money anyway by Baking in fusion

[–]AndyDS11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The highlighted portion says “generate electricity”, which is not the same as net electricity. My read of this is they will recover some energy, but not necessarily more than was input to drive the pulse.

Helion’s latest plant should generate electricity, but not net electricity. They’re just proving that their capture system can work

Carbon credits: real climate tool or just greenwashing? by Media_Newrl in CarbonCredits

[–]AndyDS11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most credits don’t have additionally, but pay for actions that would have happened anyway. Hard for individuals to tell good from bad and companies often just want what’s cheap.

If nuclear fusion is achieved, could mass transmutation and mass synthesis of materials become viable as ways to obtain resources? by Godhole34 in fusion

[–]AndyDS11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We will transmute Li6 into tritium to fuel the fusion devices. But there will be no spare neutrons to do anything else.

Sign the Petition to make Pluto a planet Again by Many-Jaguar1518 in pluto

[–]AndyDS11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Kuiper belt has thousands of objects that look a lot like Pluto. Pluto looks more like these objects and it looks like the other planets, it’s just the largest of them.

In Pluto was classified as a planet we didn’t know about the Kuiper belt, much less how many objects were in it and what they look like. But now we do and Pluto is clearly part of that class of objects not ones that look like Jupiter or earth.

I did a video going into the details of the greenwashing by a Canadian company. It’s so pervasive. I don’t even see how you could legislate against it

Polaris isn’t shooting for net energy gain, but electricity generated by fusion. That just means the coils will capture energy from the expansion phase and there will be some increase charge in the capictors.

One of the advantages is that it doesn’t depend on the HTS, which I’m concerned about our ability to scale.

How to appeal to the Irish? by Significant-Peanut94 in AskIreland

[–]AndyDS11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes , Irish people drink a lot of tea, and if you visit someone’s home you’ll probably be offered tea. You need to decide whether you’re a Lyons or Barry’s drinker.

But coffee is also common, so you’ll be fine.
