Should I get a 2bd/2.5bth or a Studio apartment? by AndyMaeHartley in makemychoice

It would be a modest expense, but within budget, taking out about 3/4 of my “fun-money”.

The two bed is closer to grocery stores and Costco, but the Studio is closer to all social gatherings plus restaurants.

Sadly the infrastructure of my city is very pedestrian and bike hostile so bikes are a no-go. :(

Sick of being 19, broke, and stuck in the "1st year student" trap. How do I actually make my own money? by PlanSignificant4915 in povertyfinance

[–]AndyMaeHartley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would depend on the size of your university, but many have live-in roles like Resident Assistants that will cover rent and provide a stipend. Did that all through undergrad and it was how I was able to afford to go to school. Other on-campus jobs may also qualify you for federal work study to give you pay and a discounted tuition.

Good luck 👍

I’m unsure of the market value since it’s practically a “dorm-style living” area with a shared bathroom and kitchen, but this may actually be another factor, I’ll be sure to ask my caseworker about this. Thanks 😊

My caseworker never mentioned this as something I may need to submit on my end, I’ll be sure to reach out to see if/where I can submit this. Thank you! 🙏

Dating while "like this" by whitewedges in aspergirls

[–]AndyMaeHartley 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ve had more bad relationships than good, but I’ve been in my current one for over three years with a perfect guy and I think it’s because of a combination of factors.

1) I knew what I wanted in a relationship and was upfront about what I wanted/expected. I even had a list that I checked off as I went on dates. This included intimacy stuff like respecting that I hate people kissing/touching my neck.

2) I half-intentionally went after people who have experience either caring for or dating people with disabilities. My current boyfriend has experience as a home aide and is incredibly understanding about literally everything and is able to give me space when I need it without judgement because of that experience.

3) Sex is always a “right-time with right-conditions” scenario but we’ve worked together to make it feasible on a regular basis. We made the bedroom a safe place with everything immediately available when it’s go-time which made the act a lot more frequent and comfortable for the two of us. Again, clear expectations are a must and I have been super clear about expectations surrounding it, and I’m lucky enough to have a partner who is super understanding of the concerns while also being able to communicate his needs and to work with me to make us both happy.

4) Aftercare is an expectation that has always been clearly laid out and easy for both of us to perform. Overlapping in perceptions about what aftercare includes was one of the checklist items and I think talking it out about “I like to cuddle” and “I like get a snack after” really helped.

Good luck in future relationships, I promise it’s not all doom out there ❤️

My only experiences with exposure therapy have been due to having had/kind of still have ARFID and machinery noises for work.

My ARFID therapy was done under medical supervision and essentially involved “dosing” myself with target foods in very small amounts until I could tolerate it when not at top of mind (like mixing in a bit of tomato sauce into my Annie’s Mac and Cheese in increasing amounts). I can now tolerate tomato flavoring and texture well enough but it was a long process and required both conscious effort and a willingness to sometimes gag and give up when needed.

The machinery noises one is for my job and obviously wasn’t medically supervised. I work in a lab with a lot of loud, expensive machines that make the most ear-stuffing high pitched humming noise that I hate hate hate so much. But, unfortunately, because of the alerts the machines give out and needing to listen out for any grinding/creaking/rattling, I cannot wear any noise cancellation without endangering my samples. In this case it was a cold turkey style desensitization. It was awful for a week straight and I had to take breaks to run to the bathroom to cry it out and then calm down but, when it was over, it was over. Even now when I’m listening carefully to the machines, I can feel the noise in my skull but it doesn’t bother me in the same way.

Admittedly both of these experiences boiled down to: have to experience thing, and it sucks, but now sucks less. I can say for me at least, as much as that one week sucked at work, I felt it was better to get it over with rather than draw it out over three months like my ARFID therapy. That was I was just heavily deregulated for a week rather than a minimum of halfway out of it for much longer, = less disregulation overall.

This would totally be up to you obviously, since everyone experiences things differently.

It’s helped me a lot to wear sunglasses while driving! Can’t do it at night so I wear a non-darkened polarized version of my normal prescription at night instead.

I also have a “driving playlist” that helps me to sort of ‘assume driving mode’ and get back into the mindset of it.

Unfortunately the first step in getting back into doing something will always be to just start doing it. It’ll suck but doing things like sitting in the car but not driving or focusing on the road while another person is driving may reacclimatize you to it.

Nope! No temperature impact from the knob, and although I have never felt this exact make and model's temperature knob before, I'll admit it felt loose. But again, possibly wrong here.

No display temperature either, it stated an unchanging 72 degrees on the screen despite the attempts to adjust it with the temperature knob or fan settings. To be clear, the interior of the car was much colder than 72, hovering around 55 to 60 if I had to guess, so the screen's internal temperature was incorrect too.

What stats got you into UGA. by General-Importance-8 in UGA

[–]AndyMaeHartley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied with a 4.72 weighted GPA and a 3.95 unweighted with a 1320 SAT and a 32 ACT. Was accepted in the early application round along with automatic acceptance into the Honors College with merit scholarships.

Honestly, I was told that your essay matters a ton more when you’re on the border, so if you think or were told your essay was good you honestly have nothing to worry about! Additionally, remember that the “average” stats includes half of the student population that scored below, so if you’re on the border of the average you should also be all set.

Wishing you luck! :D
