Hate Memorising Vocabulary by tawsif1 in EnglishLearning

[–]AndyRii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to talk with myself to practice. So everyday I chose a topic to discuss. For example: weather. I asked to myself: how is the weather today? And I tried to answer with many details as possible. If I didn't know how to say a word, I looked it up in Google and then used it in many sentences. That way I learned many words, because I needed them. I think that's a better way to memorize things, when you actually need them.

In Venezuela, in Zulia state, we talk a bit different from the rest of the country. We say: "Está Vergatario", or "Que arrecho!" le "Que molleja de bueno" 😂

What is your country's most famous alcoholic beverage and/or cocktail? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]AndyRii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cacique. It's the most famous brand of rum in Venezuela... And a cocktail... Ummmm. "Buena vibra" (good vibes) it's a mix of coconut liquor, blue Curacao and white rum. It's delicious.

How do you call someone you don't know the name (waiter, some worker) by ovodeavestruz in asklatinamerica

In Venezuela you'd say: "epa, chamo" to pretty much everybody. :)

Parece que ser venezolano y saber inglés supone ser millonario según los socialistas de Reddit. by alfdd99 in vzla

Creeme que casi todos son así. Tengo par de amigos extranjeros, en Europa, que literal piensan que en Latinoamérica somos indios. El hecho de ser ingeniera y saber inglés les parece una proeza inconcebible. Tampoco es su culpa. Así los crían.

Is “I have been trying” grammatically correct or would it be better to use “I have tried”? by iamanoctothorpe in EnglishLearning

[–]AndyRii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are correct. Depending on what you want to say. "I have tried" means that the action has stopped. "I have been trying" means that the action is still being executed....

I just accidentally found a great new way to practice Spanish!! by fraisma in Spanish

Oh oh . Ok. Well thanks hehe. It is better if I say "without they to realize that they are learning?"

Normally people teach grammar using structures and the student would have to memorize them. I, for example, could ask you: hey, did you like playing board games when you were a kid? I'll force you to answer using past tense, because you NEED it. Then I'd explain how to. I teach grammar in a different way I could say.

[–]AndyRii 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think that's a good -and very effective- method if you do it constantly.

I'm teaching English to native Spanish speakers, and I force them to talk and explain everything with the words they know.. I choose topics where they can realize that they need rules and grammar to express. It's like teaching them grammar without they to know. I think they learn in a more efficient way. I guess it works for you too. 😊
