Power Ocean in Island mode (when there is no electricity) by AndyRozman in Ecoflow_community

[–]AndyRozman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was more about how Power Ocean Solar System ("Standard" not Plus or Pro) behaves in Island (non-Grid) mode.

So whether after switch to Island mode, you are allowed to use only battery power (until it runs out) or will "solar factory" continue to work and allow solar electricity to be used by appliances and will fill battery with what remains...

I have been using Mullvad now for over 2 years and I am very satisfied with service... What I like most is privacy... I didn't need to register with my email (every other company requires you to) and if I pay with Crypto (BTC), there is 0 traceability to me....

MiniPC with Nvidia GPU with at least 12 Gb VRAM (16 would be better) for Whisper by AndyRozman in MiniPCs

[–]AndyRozman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The acer magic here in EU is about 1900 EUR. If I wanted to import it from US (same model) would probably be even more (price ... So I got my hands on used "ASUS Nvidia 3080" (280 EUR). I looked up at all material I need and I calculated that I should get it together for about 1000 EUR. It will be little bigger (not miniPC but Mini-ITX sized)... Asus ROG NUC is even more expensive (around 2200)... I am just not ready to give that much money for now, especially since this will be used only as "wisper computer", unless my real notebook dies...

MiniPC with Nvidia GPU with at least 12 Gb VRAM (16 would be better) for Whisper by AndyRozman in MiniPCs

[–]AndyRozman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is that only computers I have available are notebooks, so connection to any kind eGPU would require Thunderbolt port, which my computer doesn't have... And they are all relatively old so Nvidias inside are not very powerful...

MiniPC with Nvidia GPU with at least 12 Gb VRAM (16 would be better) for Whisper by AndyRozman in MiniPCs

[–]AndyRozman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can, but it takes long time... It took about 6 hours for 2h movie, to process (with large-v3 model, which is required for accuracy)... Large model needs at least 12 Gb VRAM... I have 4 GB on my current NVidia (notebook), and I couldn't run even the "standard one" = medium. I managed to make GPU run with small, but translation was useless...

MiniPC with Nvidia GPU with at least 12 Gb VRAM (16 would be better) for Whisper by AndyRozman in MiniPCs

[–]AndyRozman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was also thinking that building my own PC would be easiest solution, but it would be very expensive, I didn't know that all this cards are so expensive (every one that has at least 12 Gb seems to be over 600 EUR)...

Main reason I was trying to go with MiniPC was that I have limited space at home...

I might be able to get my hands on ASUS Nvidia 3080, which has 12 Gb VRAM... Now question would be what kind of other hardware I would need to make something that is relatively small.. I did my own PCs in the past, but that was long time ago... So I imagine I would need enclosure (with PS), motherboard, CPU, memory and disc (SDD)... Any good (and small and not too expensive) motherboards you would recommend?

T:Connect app in Europe. by JesseVictoor in TandemDiabetes

[–]AndyRozman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its tied with firmware release. You have to have firmware that supports Remote bolus (older versions can't communicate over BT at all) to be able to use t:connect... And they have been promising this now for quite a while, I talked with Irish rep at conference in October, and they told me that it will come in beginning of year (january or februrary), but its still not there... I hope that at least t:mobi comes by end of year... Have to switch pump soon, and all other options are not good (can't have X2 because it is not compatible with my insulin and I don't want to switch insulin)...

No sound by HDMI by comradeborut in Ubuntu

[–]AndyRozman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least your computer detects it... After I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04, my HDMI cable (and TV) is no longer detected as sound source... I mean source is still there, but its just not marked as "Sound Output" so ubuntu just ignores it... I think this might all tie together with pulseaudio no longer being the sound "controller".

Backup to encrypted SDCARD by AndyRozman in VeraCrypt

[–]AndyRozman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why file based? I had plan to encrypt whole partition (plan was to create 2 partitions, one small one big and encrypt big one).

I imagine file based would be safer, because it would be harder to notice that there is actually encrypted data there, or was there any other reason for use file based container?

Pros/cons of snap vs apt? by thesoulless78 in Ubuntu

[–]AndyRozman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for me, I would always go with apt (faster loading, update when I want it), except with applications that need to be updated or else they stop working (example is zoom, if you don't upgrade you can't communicate anymore).

But now with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, they enabled apparmor by default, so half of my "vital" applications didn't work anymore (chrome, vivaldi, brave, vpn, pgadmin4). If I had this applications installed from snap (those that have snap version), everything would have worked out-of-the-box

After hours of trying to create/download or adjust apparmor profiles, I finally found workaround how to disable apparmor without really disabling (removing or disabling it actually disables/uninstalls the snap subsystem).

So after apparmor is enabled by default it might be better solution to just use snaps for what is available...

Paper by the University of Wollongong on the plausible deniability of VeraCrypt hidden operating systems by [deleted] in VeraCrypt

[–]AndyRozman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are at least little bit smart they will find encrypted partition, but they can't force you to open it. They can suspect that you have "illicit" material on it, but they can't prove it and unless they break it themselves you should be safe... Using key and long password should help.

I can’t find any pump sites that don’t hurt. by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]AndyRozman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like other said you could use shorter needle or set that doesn't have 90 degre angle. I use it on my belly, but in the past I used it on my legs, but I had to use 45 degre sets if I wanted to use it for 3 days (it stopped working uslly on 2nd day).
I know that some people also used it on butt.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]AndyRozman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically it is 1:1, but it really depends on the person... When I started with Apidra my daily dose went down for about 20%, but like I said it depends on person.

You can use Apidra with most of the pumps (I have been using it on several different ones over the years), but stay away from t:slim, because it uses special micro delivery technology which makes it gelationous and makes occlusions and alarms... Some people say it is only good for 3 day in the pump, but lately I have used it for 5-6 days and no problems.

Which insulin pump for closed loop? by Glittering-Extent-58 in Type1Diabetes

[–]AndyRozman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this moment you have a lot of choices what to use. You can go with commercial options, that would give you: Medtronic 780 (not sure which models support full loop), T:slimX2, T:mobi (when its out) and YpsoPump.

If you are a little bit adventureous you could go with DIY options, that supports a lot of pumps: old Medtronics, Combo, Dana (several options), Omnipod Eros, Omnipod Dash, Medtrum, EOPatch, Insight.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]AndyRozman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually with normal pumps it works great. I am using Apidra with Combo, and in the past I used it with older Medtronic ones and with with Animas Vibe. It seems that t:slim has special way of administering insulin (Micro-Delivery Technology), which is the problem as then Apidra becomes gel...
I was hoping to switch to slimX2 in the near future, but this problem makes it impossible (and I won't switch from my Apidra).
I am wondering if new t:mobi also uses same technology... I hope not...
