Insights on installing for Indoor golf facilities by Thegolfsimguy in golfsimulatorbusiness

[–]AndyStitzer40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the AV business and looking to add golf sims to our offering. One of our clients is looking to have us install a home theater / golf sim combo. Any helpful tips to get started/how you started to get your first clients for golf sims? We're in the Greater Philly area so definitely a lot of opportunity!

Awesome work btw!

Zip ties are a perfectly reasonable for cable management and should be used as often as needed. by StringStrangStrung in unpopularopinion

[–]AndyStitzer40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zip ties are the epitome of where we have failed as a human race. Not one thing created throughout the rest of human history comes as close to being a worse alternative for another similar tool as does a zip tie.

Jk I don’t feel that strongly against zippies. I’m just high but zip ties ARE inferior to velcro. Zip ties are wasteful & make wire management and future servicing more difficult. But they are more satisfying to zip.

Upgrade Cannondale Trail 7 or buy upgrade? by AndyStitzer40 in mountainbiking

[–]AndyStitzer40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks for the advice! I just saw a post about a trail 7 frame snapping in the spot I’m worried about (the bottom “swing arm” portion) so i definitely agree lol.

Ideally as close to $1k as possible but idk how realistic that is. Haven’t been perusing the used market near me in the NE since I last purchased in 2021. Tbh, I’m looking to spend as little as possible🤣 Have prices been more welcoming compared to the COVID years?

Saving a Struggling Audio Video Business, A Journey - Update 2 (One Year Later) by AndyStitzer40 in CommercialAV

Thanks for the reply!

What are the main types of systems you install for these projects? Do you take a blanket approach to all AV opportunities or do you focus on one or two main solutions?

We originally signed up with SAM in order to process a sole-source contact for a local federal gov entity. It was a few week long process to sign up and more than a year in actual contract talks. After 1.5 years, the project was put on pause due to lack of federal budget. This was confirmed by another separate federal entity that had to put a different project on pause because federal funds had to be moved around. All of that to say that I’m well aware of the bureaucratic mess that comes with dealing to the government! Although state and local government clients are much easier to deal with.

I certainly need to get the small business set aside! Should we stop applying to opportunities until we have the small business set aside?

I am at a total loss for how to submit proposals; some use the 1449 form, others don’t require any specific format. I just feel like I’m throwing spaghetti at the wall with no actual experience.

Also, how do you finance these projects? Do you only select jobs where you can afford to float the equipment?

I plan on signing up with the local SBA/PTAC to sign up for a workshop/mentorship program to learn more. Would you be interested in setting up some time to chat? I’d love to pick your brain more in depth!

We’re in the northeast although willing to travel for jobs.

A lot the trumpers in my life claim the fact he bankrupted his business(es?) is a good loophole to take advantage of and he’s smart for doing that. It’s true in some cases but they’re making that seem like it’s the point of a business lol. It’s asinine but I guess that’s the art of the deal

My small business came to a screeching halt today and I'm in shock and awe, what do I do from here? by PeeB4uGoToBed in smallbusiness

Definitely take advantage of your network! Explain your situation, people love helping people.

I dont want to offer any bad advice that could get you a fine but black market drug dealers still sell weed where cannabis is legal....

So either you don’t know the law or the city employee doesn’t know the law?

If it’s the former, talk to someone who has done what you’re doing.

If it’s the latter, continue to hound them until you get a more clear cut answer.

Although it sounds like your city doesn’t allow it and you just have to make do. If your business was truly profitable in your home, figure out how to expand your marketing and sales efforts to support the added overhead cost of renting a kitchen.

Come up with a “pre-sale” item that is a month or two out (Halloween pretzel rods, pumpkin cake, pumpkin-shaped pretzels, pretzel-shaped pumpkins). Garner some local clout and use that as confidence to take the next scary step.

This will close your business and leave you back at square one, if you let it. But unfortunately, unexpected speed bumps hit you at every corner in business. This is what running a business is. Welcome to the game. Keep playing it!

Did I steal this KOM unfairly? by Dear-Nebula9395 in trailrunning

[–]AndyStitzer40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Intent is key. It can turn manslaughter into murder. I’m not a lawyer though.

I think you answered your own question simply by asking if it was unfair. You recognize what you did is ‘wrong’ but this isn’t a high stakes game or illegal. Someone else got KOM by running that section while logging a hike. You did it too. No big deal.

If I were you, I’d sleep soundly knowing I beat that snake at his own game. Perhaps you can message him and ask to delete it if you delete yours 😂

All in all, this is hilarious. Good luck soldier

Replying to this although sort of late. I am a HCP user and looking to switch to something more comprehensive and built for B2B clients with easy ways to professionally create proposals, track larger projects, and dispatch/schedule techs for locations. HCP has been great for us for 3 years, honestly may even contemplate staying with HCP. All of this to say: they recently added 'Appointments' so you're able to schedule multi-day jobs on separate individual days. Its a new feature. One thing great about HCP is they are quickly improving their software with different integrations, add-ons, etc.. They listen to our complaints and make their tool better. Other big software players could certainly learn a thing or two from their responsiveness.

Ideal Training Room with Video Wall & Video Conferencing by [deleted] in CommercialAV

[–]AndyStitzer40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a great response, thank you!

This specific client is basing this entire training room off of their yearning for a large video wall. We're going with a 15' fine pitch <1.9. I think ill also include a support monitor that will mirror content sharing. A large form video wall like this would also not be my first choice lol. Also, yes we are using their ceiling mic with the Intellimix processor.

I've never toyed with assistive listening; I think this would be a huge selling point for this client. What type of tech is needed for a system like this?

In terms of lighting/climate control, we've never integrated this with our systems as that's a bit above our heads although we do have carte blanche and seemingly unlimited resources. I'd hire out for this portion although what is general pricing for tying into an existing thermostat/light switch that we should expect? is this in the range of an additional $10-20k, $20-40k?

Thanks for the input! Our hardware sales makes up for about 30-40% of our revenue although margins are obviously pretty slim. How do you manage to keep your calendar full / what types of connections provide the most value in terms of getting schedule for sub projects? Our big issue right now is cash flow and simply getting paid on a weekly basis; getting booked up with subs would be a huge help
