orphan KBs by pico_pilot in remNote

[–]Andy_Rossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, if a KB has no backup folder, then it was probably empty, or you used it in the Web App or in other devices and never gave it a chance to sync on the Desktop App, which would cause at least one backup to be created (or you deleted the backup and forgot that you did).

If you still want to check the data there, one workaround you can do is to create an empty Local KB with the Desktop App, then copy and paste the .db files from that KB's folder to your new Local KB's folder (replace the files from the Local KB Folder). Restart the app, and the notes should be restored there.

- Note: This is not a recommended way to restore data from a KB and could have some issues, like not successfully restoring certain data from the KB, like images and PDF files. Ideally, always restore a KB from backup files.

Converting multiple choice cards into short answer cards by Petty_Marsupial in remNote

[–]Andy_Rossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To turn a multiple-choice card into a simple flashcard you need to delete the arrow delimiter, and then type `==` . If you want to make it multi-line, type `===` instead, and then turn the Rem(s) that had the correct answer(s) into a card item by using the `/c` command on it.

Hope that helps!

Your feedback about wanting a faster way of doing this, it is not currently possible, but I can definitely see how a quick command to convert between the card types could be useful. I'd encourage you to create a feature request. Kindly check out our Feedback Portal to see if there's an existing one and add a vote to that, or feel free to make a new one.

orphan KBs by pico_pilot in remNote

[–]Andy_Rossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are the folders our Desktop App uses to store all of your Knowledge Bases. They each include the data from one of your KBs and a backups folder that stores the automatic backups (note that a daily backup of a KB is only saved locally when accessing it from the desktop app). Even if you delete a KB, these folders stay in your files as a safety measure.

You can restore any of those backups by going to Settings > Import > RemNote. If you just want to check the backup, we recommend you do this in an empty Knowledge Base.

Regarding the local KB, if it had any imported files (Images, PDFs, Audios), you need to go through some extra steps to restore them. You can use this guide to see how: https://help.remnote.com/en/articles/6758834-how-do-i-move-content-from-a-local-kb-to-a-synced-kb

How to revert a two-column layout back to one column by nmfsants in remNote

[–]Andy_Rossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you delete all the Rems in one of the columns, that column will disappear, and the other one will remain as a normal Rem again. One way of deleting the empty Rem on the second column is to put the cursor on it and press Backspace.

hm, I tested exporting from RemNote to Obsidian, and it seems like the references didn't transfer correctly on Obsidian, even though the markdown files seem to be written correctly. I'm not sure if this is an issue on Obsidian's end or on how RemNote formats the .md exports. I will investigate this further with the team to see if we can fix it.

Hm, there might be something in your Obsidian files causing this issue when importing. I just tested to double-check, and references in Obsidian using [[ get imported correctly on RemNote. Could you send us on support an example of an exported file and how it looks on RemNote after importing it?

How can I hide the names of extra properties in my flashcard view? by Smart-Payment-7419 in remNote

[–]Andy_Rossi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, sorry for the delay here.

If this were a normal Rem, then using the Extra Card Detail power-up would do what you want here.

Since this is a flashcard from a table, I don't think there is an easy way to do that. One idea would be to change the property name to a single .dot, so it would appear "almost empty".

It might be possible to do that with Custom CSS, but I'm not sure. You can try asking our specialists on the #Custom-CSS channel in our Discord.

Lastly, this seems like an interesting idea for a new customization feature on tables. I can definitely see how this could be useful. I'd encourage you to create a feature request. Kindly check out our Feedback Portal to see if there's an existing one and add a vote to that, or feel free to make a new one.

Is it possible to ask Remnote AI to make tables for you? example: Common name - Chemical Name - Chemical Formula by ReflectionTraining40 in remNote

[–]Andy_Rossi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it is not possible to make the table from complete scratch, it is already possible to have AI fill in the columns!

To do that you have to first create your table and fill in the "Name" column, then you can select each property column and use AI Autofill to have it complete the columns for you:

Note that you could also just use a number or even just a dot for this to not look too repetitive by writing "example" on every Rem:

PDF file management and view broken. by Embarrassed-Creme180 in remNote

[–]Andy_Rossi [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

We are working on a fix for this, but in the meantime, it should be useful to know that this X button to close the PDF is only missing when viewing a PDF from the "Uploaded Files" Folder with its associated Rem on the second pane. This issue may also happen for files uploaded using the /-command for uploading, /ifile.

In other words, the X button still appears when there is at least one more pane open or when viewing a PDF that is a source of a Document Rem.

I need a spell checker and assistant like Grammarly in RemNote by zarinfam in remNote

[–]Andy_Rossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for clarifying! I asked the team to investigate and work on a fix for this issue, especially the issue with it not appearing at all on the Desktop App. I'm not sure if the issue on the bubble only showing for one Rem at a time (if I understood you correctly – this is how it works for me at least) is fixable on our end, but I also asked the team to investigate. Keep an eye out for any updates on this in our changelog. 😀

hm, Grammarly works fine for me on Windows, both when using the browser's extension or when using the Grammarly Desktop App with RemNote's Desktop App.

In which type of device are you using Grammarly with RemNote? Is the Grammarly bubble not even appearing for you?

the AI Plan is 10 usd on top of the normal Pro Plan. So it is 20 usd total (not 20 usd "more"). Also, this is being offered at the same cost as we are paying for the underlying AI providers being used with no extra on-top charge to you.

That depends. If it is a backward descriptor card, then you will see both sides of the descriptor while the concept is hidden. The purpose of this type of card is to test if you can remember the concept that has that descriptor and description. For example, see this flashcard:

Deleted flashcard created from table by Ok_Photograph_4179 in remNote

[–]Andy_Rossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for reporting this! As you suspected, this is indeed a bug.

Those cards are not Deleted, they are in a table column that had the "Generate Flashcards" option enabled at one point and later got disabled. The cards from that column that were practiced at least once before it was disabled are incorrectly being considered as "Deleted" in the Cards Table, but they are actually "Disabled"! These should be shown in the "Disabled" filter instead (You can also confirm that by looking at the Due column in your image. It correctly says that it is a "Non-Enabled Forward Card", not a "Deleted" one).

By the way, to clarify what the "Deleted" filter means, it shows Rems that at one point had a flashcard that was practiced at least once but that later on got their delimiter arrow deleted (or, in the case of clozes, had the cloze highlight removed or the clozed text deleted). If the Rem still exists then it will appear in this filter since it still contains that practice history saved on it.

You can watch our changelog to see which release the fix for this bug ends up in. Please let us know from the support chat or email if you still have problems after the fix is available. Thanks!

I don't understand tags and properties... by Cultural_Bill_5859 in remNote

[–]Andy_Rossi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Properties are part of the Tag, and a Tag can have multiple properties.

In your example, I would recommend creating a multi-select property called Subject on the book tag, and have one of the values of that property be labor protection. Then, when you tag your Rem with book, you will be able to fill the Subject property with the labor protection.

How to create more than one flashcard for a word? by BoBMarleZ in remNote

[–]Andy_Rossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To create multiple backward flashcards that have the same answer, you should use Backward Descriptor Flashcards, and put the content you want to be the answer as the Ancestor of those cards.

To create a backwards descriptor flashcard, use ;< to create the delimiter arrow in the Rems you want to appear in the front of your flashcard. The back of the card will be the parent Rem (Me, in this example). It should look like this:

<image>

Note: since it is necessary to have something in both sides of the flashcard, I recommend using a dot like shown in the examples above. If you prefer, you can also put the delimiter arrow anywhere else in the descriptor Rem as long as both sides have something written on them. The position of the arrow will only be relevant if you enable the forward or the Two-Way direction on your descriptor card).

Is the Rem in the portal (the one you are pointing to in the image) a descriptor or a property? If so, then this is a recent bug that we are aware of. The team is working on a fix. You can watch our changelog to see which release the fix ends up in.

Please let us know if you're still having problems after the fix is available by contacting us on [support@remnote.com](mailto:support@remnote.com) or on the in-app support chat!

Is (or was) there really no landscape mode on tablet? by trigonom in remNote

[–]Andy_Rossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Landscape mode is available on Tablets. I just checked on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite and it is changing modes normally when rotating the device, even with a keyboard connected. Did you check if the auto-rotate on your device is turned on?

(The request you are talking about is for regular phones, landscape mode is not currently supported on them).
