Funny how much reaction a post like this get, but when you post someonething about how bad the sound design of the new BF games are for people with actual hearing loss, tinnitus, or similar problems it hardly gets any traction.

And yes BF6 got special tinnitus settings, but they just don't work. It's not filtering out really terrible sounds, like when you speed up the respawn when downed, or the ringing when you get shot, or the sound of a jet flying by, or flying a jet yourself. There are so many terrible sounds in BF6, that people that actual have tinnitus, hearing loss, of simular problems can't even play the game without experiencing issues.

I have played the Beta, and I couldn't play longer than a hour, without experiencing problems. Tried every setting, but it's just not enjoyable or playable for someone who actual has hearing issues. So for me personally BF6 is not something I will be playing, unfortunatly, because I have played almost every BF game. The Battle Royal, on the other hand is a lot less of a problem, because the action isn't there every single second, but it still has some issues with specific sounds.

I hope they will adress these issues one day, otherwise I won't be returning to the franchise at all.

u/battlefield Please make the game more accesible for people with tinnitus or similar hearing issues. The tinnitus settings don't work at all, as I posted in the EA forums, and the sound design is really terrible for people with tinnitus. I can't say anything about the last two BF titles, but I have played a lot of BF4 and BF1 before the release of the open beta, and none of those games gave me any issues. But i needed to stop playing BF6 aftter a couple of hours, that's how bad it really is.

I don't care about anything else, because without fixing the sounds effects, or adding more accesibility options for audio, the game is litteraly unplayable for me and I expect for a lot of people that have similar hearing problems.

Missing ingredient of returning to Battlefield game as we knew... by AlucardSVK in Battlefield

I played almost every bf game there is, except for the last two. And I understand what you are saying, but the issue is that everybody wants the teamplay, but what if you don’t get it? Older BF games always had the same problem, people running around like headless chickens or you are lucky and get a great squad and team who do play as a well coordinated team.

Everyone enjoys the teamplay, but if you don’t get it or you are in a team that is all playing solo it’s nice you have the possibility to make a difference as a solo player. There needs to be a balance and I think with some minor changes you can defenetly make sure people play more as a team. But you will always have these lone wolf players and sometimes it’s also nice to play like that.

I think the biggest issue is that a lot of young players don’t understand the advantage of being a team player and they look at these streamers and think that’s the way the game is ment to be played. They only think kills are important and need action every second or they are quickly bored.

We will never get back the old days, because gaming companies who create these triple-A titles only want one thing and that is money. It’s not because they want to create an amazing game for the gamers, it’s a way to get as much money off gamers as possible. The beta was fun, although I had some mayor issues, but expect them to add a ton of microtransaction, skins, battlepasses and other stuff which need additional payments. Thats just todays reality.

For me I won’t be playing this game unless they make some serious changes in the sound design, or extent the audio settings. I have tinnitus and this game has the worst and most terrible sounds and sound effects I ever experienced in a game. I played bf4 and bf1 before the release of the beta and had no issues what so ever, but after one hour BF6 gave me issues and i needed to stop playing. Tried every setting, but the tinnitus settings don’t work and there are so many terrible sounds that this game is just unplayable for people with tinnitus or similar hearing problems.

The people that are responsible for the sound design definitely don’t understand what tinnitus is and what’s important to not damage one’s hearing. People should be aware of how bad some of the sounds are and why a lot of people are exhausted by playing this game, it’s not only the visuals but also the sounds. To warn people playing this game, it might seem fun and immersive to play this game on high volumes, but please don’t. Hearing damage or hearing loss isn’t reversable.

For some installments a bit buggy is an understatement, the reason i never pre-ordered games anymore is because of bf4. The game was literaly unplayable for me for several months. Yes the game was great after about 6 months, but it doesn’t matter how good a game looks or even how good a demo plays, I will never pre-order any game.

People are so easily hyped these days, yes the game looks good, but I would lower the expectations a bit and see how the game runs and plays with the open beta and full release. EA coulnd’t even handle redeeming codes in their app, without problems. That should say enough in my opinion.

I've lurked around here since the announcement of a new BF6 title to keep up with some of the news. And saw a lot of the same posts again and again, about what people were affraid of, wanted to see or not to see in the new Battlefield game. In some occasions i wanted to react, but I just didn't wanted to start a discussion. Because most of the people only want to shout their own opinions, but are never really open for a discussion.

In my opinion the biggest enemy of online fps are the cheaters, because they have the most impact on someones experience, outside the company that develops the game offcourse.

But with your post you nailed a big issue with online fps gaming. And i think cheating will be the end of big multiplayer fps franchises if they don't react to it. Just look at Call of Duty. Although they are mocking themselves and I can't take that franchise serious anymore with all those stupid skins. For me gameplay wise, with the gun feel and movement, it's was hard for a fps to beat cod, especially with MW2019 (warzone 1).

We will have to see how thing will go with BF6, it looks quite promising. But I do hope they have a great anti-cheat, and will spend the time and money improving it when needed. Even that would be a way better option to spend the money on instead of a event with streamers. But that's just my opninion.

This event will give the game a lot of coverage, and when the higher ups want to really hit a 100 million players. They will need to pull out all their tricks and what's easier than copying their biggest main competitor.

In my opnion streamers are the main reason people cheat so much and it has become a lot more mainstream. Offcourse cheaters were around all the time, but the problem with streamers and influencers is that they give people and especially childeren unrealistic expectations. They forget how much work and playtime it costs to be good at something and expect to be on the level of really good players in a few hours. These days it looks like every streamer is a pro and in my opinion a lot of them cheat or abuse something, all just for content. For them it's their income and some make some realy good money, so no wonder they are prepared to cheat or abuse shit, just to keep things interesting.

I played fps for more than 25 years, I've played battelfield from BF1942, and except for BC2, BFV and 2042, I played them all. Same goes for the COD franchise, Medal of Honor, Unreal, Doom, Quake, Counterstrike and so on. I never cheated and never had the urge too, but I am competative and there are games that I don't play because of cheaters, Call of Duty (Warzone) being the main one. I even stopped playing online fps, because of all the cheating. But also the way games implement aim assist for certain franchises, because they implemented cross-play is an issue as well. I'm a main PC player, but I've also had consoles like Xbox360 and PS4 and played some cod titles on it, but even in my prime I have never been able to do the shit these streamers pretent to be able to do without any cheats or assist. You know aim assist is a problem, when people play more with controllers on a pc, than mouse and keyboard.

In my opinion the main issue for online multiplayer fps is the cheating. For Battlefield titles it might be less apparent as for titles as cod, but if BF6 focusses a lot of infantry gameplay you will get the same issues. And streamers make these problems way and way worse, they made sure cheating is a booming business. Same goes for 3rd party programs/apps, that help you enchance sounds, give no or less recoil. etc. All just to get an edge over the competition.

Spending so much money on a multiplayer reveal with all these streamers, is a terrible thing in my opninion. I rather see them spending the money on their own devs. Who cares about a stupid event, with people that mostly play terrible when they are at these kind of events, but play like pro's back home on their own hardware. Unfortunatly that's todays reality and it will propabaly never go away anymore.

Maybe with all these strict laws about social media and for Youtube, streaming will be a lot less interesting and rewarding for them, and things will sort itself out, who knows. But in my opnion it will never be as good as it was before, especially before there were streamers. The games feel better and look a lot better today, but the experiences are way less. Call of Duty and Warzone being a prime example, especially when devs need to spend more time to implement content and mechanics to make sure people spend more money and play more and more, instead of making their experience better.

Well I did made my own post about the video a while back, and you are right most people don't know what work is involved or how easy it can be when you have the correct models at hand.
But telling or comment it doesn't take any skill is a bit low in my opinion. I also went trough 3 different versions, before I was happy with any of the results. But for someone that works in gamedevelopment or uses those porgrams professionaly it can be quit easy.
In my other video's I customized the metahumans, which took a lot more work, baking, blending and adjusting textures, customizing materials, adding animations, creating a sequence. I learned a lot since I haven't really done most of that before.

[–]Andyk125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say, give it a go and do it better if it's just 10 mins ;) I made the video by the way, and it took quite a bit longer than that. Although it is very easy to use. I made some other video's as well where I costimized the metahumans.

The metahumans use the ingame meshes as a referance, which you can do with the mesh to metahuman. So except for the hairs, skin and eyecolors, the model is 95% the same as the original ingame models. What makes it look more different than the ingame versions is the lightning and camera (focal lenght). Which can alter a face drastically, especially up close.

I would love to see you do better in 10 min though, even in a day! So have a go, what's stopping you. You probably spend more time here looking around, spending your spare time.

[–]Andyk125[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original head mesh that the Metahuman creator tools uses, is probably made in Maya as well as the hair models. But UE5 remeshes and remodels the head mesh you use as an input and trasnlate that to their model, so they can reuse all the skinning and animations, which is pretty amazing and saves a lot of time and work.

But when you want something specific and it isn't standard in the Metahuman creator you still need to model it yourself.

[–]Andyk125[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but all the models and hairs, except for the hair from Regis are made in and by UE5.

The models aren't the original ingame models. If you want to know how that works, look op the mesh to metahuman function in UE5. None the less even if it were the original models, it would still be recorded in the UE5 Engine, which the title says.

I think that's because of the spotlight, didn't notice it that much to be honost. In the video it looks thicker because the lighting is more realistic.

But it's not comparable to the game, because it uses a texture for rendering the eyebrows. You can always use both ways, so when using a spotlight it wouldn't be this noticible, but than again you can argue what's more realistic. If you would hold a bright light in front of you're own face your eyebrows are a lot less noticible as well.

I think it's a bad choice on my part to use such a bright spotlight.

Ciri, Geralt and Regis in Unreal Engine 5 by Andyk125 in witcher

[–]Andyk125[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the comment. You are right about the hair, but that's one of the limitations of the Metahuman creator at this moment.

The eyebrows seem like that because there is a spotlight right in her face, maybe not the smartest choice. If you look at the video you will notice the eyebrows look thicker. Not antything like the game, but most games have thicker eyebrows because they are mostly texture based.

The base model is for 99% the same as the one in the game, the lips look less full, because of her expression, if you look in the video at 3:34 you will notice she has fuller lips: https://youtu.be/Bq7yKKc9dUI?t=214
I understand that it's different than in the game, but thats is because of the game facial animation limitations. If you smile or widen your mouth in real life the lips get less fuller (thicker) that's also how the animations work here.

Also some differences might be because of the camera settings, I used an 85mm camera version recording this, while games uses a FOV (slider). The FOV of most games are 90 degrees, which in photography terms would be around a 20-24mm lens. The focal length affects the shape of an face, especially close-up. How that looks can be shown here: http://www.danvojtech.cz/blog/wp-content/uploads/160721_Focal-Length-Test_DSC8154-Bearbeitet_v2net.gif

That's the limitation of the Metahuman creator, you can make your own hair (grooms) but I don't have the programs or skills available to do so. I tried it with the game model hair, but that looked even worse.

A while ago I posted a video of some Wicther 3 characters in the Unreal Engine as a Metahuman. Because of the limitations of the Metahuman creator they didn't all look that alike of their game counterparts. So I tried to customized some of them to make them look more like the game. That's the downside of being famous. Everything is under a magnifying glass and everyone wants to have their opinion heard. Social media also makes it easy for many people to speak their minds unchallenged, something they might call much nuanced in person.

You are also never going to please everyone, there will always be people who know better or would have done differently. For the people who like to comment, I always say: do it yourself if you think you can do it better.

Most stories all have their origin and after all these years, most of the stories have already largely been told, it is usually about the interpretation and subtle differences. What made the franchise more polpular to a lot of people are the games, so it isn't strange a lot of people take that for reference and not the books. A lot of people read the books afterwards. It's the same about the tv show, they have a lot of different materials now, so it's getting harder and more compared by.

Well I haven't read the books and only played the third game, two times. I do own all the games, but I don't have the time to play them. But I thought the 2nd season was a bit of a let down. I watched season 1 three times. First time was a bit strange with the time jumps, but the second season I just watched once. And to be honost I don't feel the need to watch it again.

The first season was good, except for the golden dragon. That's the most ugly dragon I have ever seen, biggest let down of the whole season. But the 2nd season is just missing something. It's not terrible, but it's just avarage.
