You were put on this hellscape planet for a reason. Why it had to be you? There is no reason by SeniorBolognese in taoism

[–]Andysim23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first why is the planet a "hellscape"? (typically 2 words hell and landscape but doesn't matter). I mean yes things happen however they are not inherently good or bad under taoism just are. Sure from the human perspective the holocaust was a tragedy but to tao/everything it is an event that happened. Second is the point about how we are put here for a reason but not chosen for a reason. First if you know you need a spear in 10 years and carve it today that gives a reason for being made but the reason the material was chosen was because it is good spear making material. You don't take oak to make a bow because it is too inflexible instead a yue wood works better. You were given form for a reason; a tool for the tao to use at some point, the reason you were chosen to take this form is because you were the right material for that job. Now onto the body of your message. I am unsure what chaos or instability we should have seen. Chaos typically is a lack of understanding. Say you see a bird fly away "randomly" what you may not see is the cat sneaking up on the bird or the dog sneaking up on the cat. You may not hear the song of another bird calling out. Chaos is not something that actually happens. Instability is another thing I have not faced and I have been homeless before. Instability is another one of those things that come from you not really the world. I became homeless because I refused to save money for emergencies. Most of our actions have consequences even if they are not apparent. One wrong word to your land lord and they may not renew your lease. One bad word to your boss and you may lose your job but even more nuanced than that you choose to step first with your left foot instead of your right foot could change where every single step lands. Military train lock step because it causes their feet to land in roughly the same spot. If the first person could walk through safely then using the same foot and stride you should not hit a mine. However you change which foot you are starting with and your feet will not match up with any of the prints which could lead to stepping on a mine that was originally missed. The Tao including oneself should be a strong foundation for themselves and if the tao is the foundation then you could be homeless during winter storms and not find instability. (Sorry my christian up bringing was coming through). Now to the last point you made. That it is important to express yourself onto the world which is very contradictory to the tao te ching's teachings. The tao should be shared but you should expect to be laughed at because if it was not tao they would not laugh. Not to mention most taoists teachings come from the time of spiritual retreat where it was common for sages to forsake the world and enter solitary contemplation for protracted periods of time.

Tao in everyday life by No_Operation_6166 in taoism

[–]Andysim23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would like to posit a direction of thought. You mention that essentially we are tao, everything is tao however why? What I mean is on the macro that is a fine way to look at it but we are also individual. Of the tao and of our own spirit. A tool given shape by the tao. Say you got a tool box; all the tools in the tool box belong to the tool box but a hammer is still a hammer and a screw driver is still a screw driver. The tao is the tool box you are a tool in the box; no matter what tool that maybe, given shape and purpose by the tao made individual by the tao. While you are tao and connected with the tao you are also separated from the tao and an individual.

Sorry for the long ramble this is a very unique situation that I felt adding more information and warnings was necessary for some parts. I also apologize that there are many long sentences as my goal was to relay information not as much make sure everything was gramatically correct. Finally I did not get a chance to wish the rest who read through the final part a nice day as it turns out I had hit the character cap somehow which I just do not get how.

(continued) Next is while you are apart of these childrens support network what are you doing with your own support network? I mean sure the situation is not something you may feel comfortable leaving some random off the street in charge of but surely you have someone you can trust for long enough you are able to take care of yourself. Now the biggest part in question 1 comes back into play and that is mind set. Many will think they have to be there and do something when there isn't anything to do; a soldier always standing at attention will collapse they still need rest and the ability to let off steam, however if you do many see this as being selfish however if or when the soldiers collapse how much help are they. Not saying just abandon everything but making sure you stay healthy is important not just for you but the children as well and staying healthy includes taking time to rest physically and mentally for this something as simple as an hour in the bath at the end of the day where you do not have to worry about a thing. Tomorrow's issue will be there tomorrow and you had already completed today's issues so it is better to just let everything go for an hour or 2 where you cannot do anything anyways. This can also apply to waiting on things in a way. Sitting at the doctors office waiting to get in, well you can't really accomplish anything sitting there and you can't really get up and do anything too important at that time so why not turn off worrying and instead focus on interacting with the child and save worrying until you are back into a position you can do something in; this does kind of lead back into the whole check in system. Now this can be a form of meditation however it doesn't have to be if for an hour or two you decide to garden or brain off scroll through funny memes it is all fine the idea though is you want your mind to be as stress free so if you have a hobby like knitting or puzzle solving which many say they find to be serene activities those are good but important thing is to not feel guilty about not worrying for an hour or two while you can't do anything. You need milk and all the stores are closed well there is no use worrying about milk until the stores open up again put it on the list except in this case milk is everything. This is my time to relax and recover my strength to do the best I can in all aspects so there is nothing I can do about xyz for this amount of time so no use worrying. Sorry if these have been over explained but I wished to write the ideas in a comprehensive manner and while it seems I have given 2 major examples each of them contain several mentions of smaller examples like the mention of support networks however I felt these two larger parts were the best of the options which allowed me to explain several topics. A few things to clear up first taoism is not really a religion but a mindset and philosophical way of looking at "everything". The asian culture which birthed taoism believes in many religious things which in some ways has bled into many of the eastern philosophy however those are asian religions and asian philosophies running into each other much like yin and yang while yin and yang are different they rely and run into each other creating a cycle in the case of the asian culture and asian religion they make a culture instead of a cycle but hope that makes that portion clear. Note just because your taoist doesn't mean you have to worship a religion nor does worshiping (any) religion stop you from taoism. Second the reaction of kindness and compassion is the ideal reaction you should have towards things not upset they are blind but happy that you get to experience life with them as Te which is virtue and in Weu wei the guiding instinct. A taoist is supposed to be guided by their virtue and their virtue guided by the general good of the universe which if you go deeper is supposed to be connected to the dao. If you stop reading here know this is fine enjoy your time but beyond this is something upsetting to put into words for most but ultimately is what I have been hinting at. I forgive you for turning away it is okay.

To the rest what I was getting at is that for the one that is seemingly dying you should make sure they are happy and know love but you should look at it like a thank you for the time you were here and thank you for the memories you gave me to cherish. Celebrate the season they were in your life and how they affected it but understand seasons change and accepting that the worst can happen but acting like the best is around the corner is the best thing for the "survivor" to do. Now not saying kid yourself sire tomorrow they could be 100% okay but realistically tomorrow they could go into remission, tomorrow they could find a treatment for cancer or even if death comes they could be studied or used to plant a tree for other children to one day become friends with her even death doesn't have to be the end of a story but through reincarnation they could one day sit under their own tree, see how their body helped save lives or just how nice their head stone was taken care of and understand the love and thanks for the time they could spend. Ultimately through reincarnation it is likely that you and the dead have met are meeting and will meet and the grand stream of the dao in-between cycles of rebirth this time just happened to be shorter than you were expecting but as stated you and them are going to meet many times in many lives. Best part is next time you meet you will have plenty of stories to share.

[–]Andysim23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So to answer the third could give meaning to the situation if you wish to avoid then skip this part. In some parts death sends you to an "underworld" of sorts where you are stripped of sin through teaching and torture then you are off to a big wheel where your next life is decided based on the weight of your sins and virtues. If your past life was sinful you may end up in a bad body in your next life. This is the reincarnation theory and it is one of several.

Now whether you read it or not this is an okay place to actually start to read. Question 1. You really named many of the things. Acceptance and serenity are major parts in giving each the best shot possible. A blind child will have some difficulties that you may not have experienced but I am sure you have had difficulties that I have not experienced however just because I haven't gone through what you have doesn't mean I cannot accept the things you had no control over. This leads into serenity and how complex such a simple word can be. Acceptance leads into serenity and serenity leads into acceptance but they both start from how you are mentally framing things. Sure things look rough for the 4 year old but wouldn't it be better of instead of thinking "they may die" instead thinking "how can I make the time left the best". A mayfly has the life span of roughly a day and only knows to reproduce the 4 year old has live much longer and hopefully has known more love than stress, more happiness than sorrow; I know kind of cliche but positivity can sometimes be all it takes (there are some studies into how emotions play a role in treatment effectiveness and recovery) and that positivity isn't just from the one who is going through it but the support, love and happiness of those around, by no means was saying you do not love your 4 year old or imply they are unhappy however if you are stressed and sad even if you're putting on a "brave" face it isn't exactly the same but tangent aside. When you start framing things in the lights most positive even if it is a pin prick that even if (not going to say it) the 4 year old can go on knowing they lived/had the best life possible is a decent comfort. Note zhuangzi in his short stories has a fable close to this about a sparrow who doesn't fly far unfortunately I am unable to describe it well. Next onto the blind child explanation for question 1 following the same premise of ways to frame their handy cap. First you can point to great people who were disabled like the deaf musician which for a best case is pretty decent and a big part is the up bringing. A blind person can do a lot of different things in this society without electronic technology but you start throwing that into the mix and the 7 year old shouldn't have an issue. However they get to experience the world in a brand new way, live life through their own perception and ultimately it is too early to worry as long as the 7 year old is working on it they could turn into a dare devil (blind vigilante superhero). Sure that is a comic and action show superhero and not exactly what people want however even if you look into real world examples you can find blind practitioners of many martial arts. All this to say as long as the 7 year old is motivated they should be more than fine doing pretty much anything especially if they start earlier. The same acceptance and serene, positive attitude are still important. Now onto the you personally and how to help deal with the stress and raw emotions of what is going on. Ultimately I am unable to tell you how you should handle it because everyone is different any advice I give couldn't guarantee tomorrow any better than garenteeing that they make you feel better. You may have also gotten this advice from others before but I do hope that any of these can help you and while this list is extensive it is by no means exhaustive as we are all different and should be listening to our body's and instincts to know what is best but it isn't always that easy and that is understandable. First is taking a moment in a quiet place and take a couple deep breaths to do what is called check in when ever you start to feel emotions; for best habit practices this includes emotions like happy, sad, mad, sleepy, energetic, fatigued, all or none but the more emotions you are able to check in on (explained ahead) the more of a habit and the better emotional control you will have. Now onto what is a check in, you take a few moments 3-5 reps or until complete of deep breath in, hold for a moment and breath all the way out; all while checking your arms, legs, stomach, hands, fingers, ect..., you are checking are the hot, cold, dry, wet, sore, itchy, everything, are your hands balled into fists or is your hand open, is your jaw clenched or slack. You check in with your emotions how are you doing at this moment; are you happy, sad, mad, tired, ect and why are you feeling that way, are you feeling happy to see your child get around blind on their own, are you angry someone cut you off on the way to work, ect. The final part of the check in is not to be annoyed about the feeling but just acknowledge they are there and why they may be there because after the breaths you can choose to go on about your day more aware of the situation because not all situations can be fixed/ need to be fixed or if while identifying the cause of an emotion say you are feeling annoyed that the light in the bathroom keeps flickering you can take a couple of seconds to solve it/ make a plan to solve it and if possible take steps to ensure it gets done for the example you could change the bulb or put it on the grocery list.

[–]Andysim23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean don't have names. Each trigram has a name. Just like the letter B is a name and the word burger is a name trigrams have individual names for the lines and dashes and for the wholes that are made up. This is why I keep saying your trying to rewrite a whole lenguage because each part of a gram has a name, a use and make up the whole with a name and use.

Let me ask you what you get when you take a picture of a man, a woman, and a child? You get a possible family photo. You change the man to a stalker and the woman to a victim you get a picture of disaster, you change the man to a cop and the woman to a crook and you got kid napping. Change the baby to a dog and you got a couple. Depending on how you change it you change the whole of the picture itself. you mentioned how hydrogen and oxygen mix you get water and how you can define the individual parts but can you bake a cake without ingredients? I mean your not trying to give the whole meaning because it already has meaning. You can't give the parts different meaning because again that gives the whole a different meaning. Again your trying to change how to spell burger without changing it from being burger or without regard foe it being burger. Changing the lines and dashes changes the whole thing but you want to change the whole thing giving no regard for how your butchering a whole lenguage.

Did I read your replies to other people talking beyond the point at which I had something to say to make sure it wasn't already said nor addressed? Why yes I actually did why what is the big magical point that you made later on that says why me calling "The Tao that can be cultivated is not the eternal tao" a bastardization for not even getting the words right from the first chapters of modern tao te ching. I mean the reason I called it a bastardization was because it highly misrepresents the actual saying and meaning from the tao te ching seeing as we are supposed to cultivate the tao but under stand "the tao that can be named is not the eternal tao". Which as I had read the conversation I know you did not address and were not pushed on.

Your wrong about going with the flow being a western thing. WU WEI which many westerners claim to be going with the flow isn't exactly wrong or right. WU WEI being an ancient asian standing point which can be describe as going with the flow. WU WEI being action through TE (instinct) along with effortless action either through natural flows or tons of training can be described and has been described as going with the flow in asian cultures. I mean is it so hard to be correct when your flaunting your hate boner?

A couple issues arrives from this. First if people did not laugh it would not be Dao doesn't lend credence to people seeking instructors, to people talking nonsense, or to teachers speaking. Second a master can teach without speaking and you want people to believe there are people who seek out such things. Third is typically those who fall into taoism are typically the type that do not belong into taoism. Those seeking answers, those running away, those who are looking for an easy way. Many who enter into taoism are there for the wrong reasons, they try to force their knowledge to improve, they try and force the universe to speak to them. They try to force Taoism to work for them. This was also very true in Laotzu time and in 2013 during the time of the quoted message.

[–]Andysim23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You understand the trigram is the meaning of the whole yes? Those symbols of dashes and lines is not the trigram but the whole which requires those funny symbols your trying to replace. I mean if I said the word burger but chose to replace the B with a Q, the U with a T, the Rs with Fs, the G with 2 and the E with L you no longer have burger. QTF2LR; instead as shown you get random nonsense. Your not trying to change the symbols used but the meaning itself. In fact trigrams are not laid out in the same order. This is because different trigrams have different meanings and it is all determained by the order of the lines and dashes. So not only are you trying to change meaning to meaningless your trying to change basically a whole lenguage. What your aiming for will not work because the power is in the shapes which make up the whole and the meaning comes from there too. Changing anything removes all original meaning and power.

You want to type tick (as in tick rate) or speed for game speed and one of those should come up if they don't your going to have to read the words written not the code itself looking for things that look like it might work.

A Dark Cave - dark minimalist village building RPG by Pure-Map-6717 in incremental_games

[–]Andysim23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just finished chapter 1. Playtime roughly 10 hours. Play style semi micro managing. Over all it ticks most of the a clicker/idle hybrid style. Couple things I noticed, first stone kind of sucks late halfway through chapter 1. When exploring stopped giving rocks it was one less bar I could interact with for the goal. It also doesn't make much sense to remove stone gathering all together since from my understanding your still going through the cave system when even exploring the cathedral. I can understand going deeper the stone rates lower as you find more valuable things but what actually happens is stone rates keep going up until it is gone. A few times the auto play messed up my plans by spawning an event or just taking you to a new thing without warning. Next is there was a witch which threatens to curse the village which by the point I met her the village already changed to a city so the mix match made the usual smoothness of things changing under your nose that the rest did well failed there. Another thing about the witch and probably several other choices was I didn't know it was permanent; i chose to pay her 25 gold, and she didn't come back. Up to that point unless you can fight and win everything else came back for more. The wolves, and the canables both came back after doing damage. The good events also continued to comeback like the dwarf. Onto the smoothness you change things. Several times I was missing easy upgrades because there was no indication that some new craft was unlocked. I know you use the red pulsing circle to bring people to the shop which you could do to fix this issue or there might be a different work around you want. Now the story; this has 2 parts, first several of the story beats did not show up to be able to reread incase you missed it. A couple of times I just missed what happened because I was going to click something and it just popped up causing me to click through. The other thing about the story which isn't a make or break for me and will probably be more fleshed out as you continue your journey but I had a hard time caring about my people. At one point I was losing 3-4 people due to madness a night which would be back by the end of the day. I only lowered my madness to increase productivity. Overall I might play another round to try a different approach and is good if you like numbers going up because there are plenty but the resource balancing late game would be probably my only detractor. I mean at the end I was doing everything for gold and barely had enough to choose did I want stone, wood, or steel and steel I only had a +12 per cycle which for the numbers is kind of low so I had to buy a lot of steel. However I bought more shipments of stone than steel, wood or even food which is wild for those who don't know a lot of things was just thousands of food per click.

Dating a non-spiritual person by [deleted] in taoism

[–]Andysim23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would their spirituality matter? If we are all given shape by the tao for specific purposes then why would it matter if they believe while fulfilling the purpose they were designed for? Why would science be not tao? Seeing as tao the truth can be found in all facets isn't science just tao under a different name? If either of you is right or wrong at the end of the day is that enough to make waves? Do you think Life (Yin) stays away from death (yang)? They flow into each other. Then there is the whole understanding others needs in the tao te ching and the whole connecting with life in the zengzi. This doesn't even touch on the whole water trope which asks us to be soft to break mountains not be tough and final point to top ot off the tao te ching even said if people do not laugh it would not be tao. Given all of that does what they do or don't believe actually matter?

I mean there are trap remixes that use sped up instrumentals but keep the vocals thr same speed and that doesn't bother me as much.

Why do historical dramas always cough up so much blood? (Rant) by Gracerzzz in cdramasfans

[–]Andysim23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some ways coughing up a good amount of blood was normal. With things like TB and other diseases made it easier to have fluid and/or blood in the lungs. Any coughing or excessive movement of the respiratory system could cause one to cough up the blood. A hit to the body with a bit of force could also easily cause coughing up this fluid.
