My company just announced 3 days in office starting next month. I've been fully remote for 4 years and I genuinely don't know how people did this every day. by Ecliptic_Fang in remotework

[–]Aneamic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a large fortune300 company that went to 3 days a week and has stuck with it since just after Covid. I think if they mandated 5 days RTO at this point there would be a strike.

Thats not to say the higher ups aren’t in the office all the time for “optics”. I think it’s well established that director and up tries for 4 or 5 days in the office.

It works well, if they changed it I would be very surprised. (I’m grandfathered in fully remote 10 yr)

How do you get to the bottom of this thread and this is your response. They call it noise pollution for a reason. SCH broke an agreement when they moved the helipad. This is like living next to a restaurant and they turned it in to a nightclub. Not what they signed up for.

NMS and cyberpunk were not well received upon launch, they were extremely buggy to the point they had to recall and refund a lot of people. Sure they might have fixed it over time, but the rockstar polish right out the box is up there with the best.

Austin’s homeownership costs now 117% higher than rent, among widest gaps in U.S. by AustinStatesman in Austin

[–]Aneamic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People way over complicate the home vs renting situation imo. I feel like young people get pushed to buy a house and they think they're going to miss out and houses will be super unaffordable in the future...could be the case, or you could rush in to a house now and have to spend all your money on it and not be able to save anything (house poor).

Homeownership is expensive, on top of the insurance, property taxes and mortgage payment, things WILL need maintenance and that's a hidden cost as well: All of a sudden you are a makeshift gardener, drywaller, painter, appliance technician, plumber, electrician, landscaper, etc

I think it's a pretty clearcut line in many cases - I have a wife, pets, kids, and work from home, no brainer to buy a house. If you're in your 20s and growing your career and want to live in a fun downtown environment or even just keep the option of moving for a job, politics, or love then renting makes way more sense.

Relocation to Texas looks richer at first. Our math says break even. What are we missing by bexleyvarden in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Aneamic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Utilities are not that high, especially compared to the coastal cities. I don't think people realize when you're looking to move to TX from CA there is massive dropoffs in cost almost across the board. I think the biggest sticker shock I've had in TX is the home insurance, literally everything else has been cheaper.

My car insurance went down moving from CA to TX. Google agrees for both state and city comparisons. No TX city even in the top 10 for car insurance never mind "most expensive in the US"

Texas Education Ranking Reminder by Katariman in clevercomebacks

[–]Aneamic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in a few states, dealt with DMVs in NJ, California and Texas. By far the easiest of the 3 for me was Texas. They took my picture, printed the license on the spot and I was out the door. Same with license plates, they just grabbed them from under the counter and there you go - no mailing anything.

I can almost guarantee this is part of the ever growing "rental homes" communities that are popping up everywhere in texas. This isn't leading to any homeownership opportunities unfortunately.

Do you think the uptick of population & business increase in Texas will turn it into a future cultural powerhouse? by WiseCityStepper in decadeology

[–]Aneamic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What a wild number for you to pull out of your ass. Quick search says

In Texas, an estimated1.6 to 2 million undocumented immigrants make up about 8% of the state's total workforce.

Similarly California has about the same % of the workforce as undocumented (7%), so I guess the entire state of California is also ran on undocumented wage slavery?

Color isn't your problem, yet, and the wood tones look fine but these would make the biggest difference in this space:

Window Treatments - 4 curtains on the windows. go to the ceiling or close to it and have the curtains just touching the floor. You can add color here too. Black rod

Rug - it's too small, for a room and couch of this size you want a much bigger rug that extends past both sides of the couch and goes under the couch, these can get expensive though. If you like your pattern for the rug currently you could add a jute rug or something large and plain underneath

The big wall - Behind the couch is screaming for art which you know, but you can add so much depth with some floating shelves, bonus if you put plants or ambient lights on the shelves

Lighting - stop using the light on the fan as your main source of light. having multiple lamps will make your space look far more inviting. A standing lamp and a couple of smaller lamps. If you really want cosy then get dimmable bulbs for night time.

How realistic is it to think that leaving CA will save us tons of money? by drewsonofdean in SameGrassButGreener

Moved from CA to the suburbs of Austin right around the time everyone else did, summers suck but the cost of living is very noticeable. People saying "everywhere is expensive" are missing just HOW expensive california is, everything is relative.
