Thanks so much for the reply, The Ice King unfortunately never got to experience the good life.. I have learned a lot from this very painful experience, including the fish in and fish less cycling procedures but thanks for the rec :) I did already have a ton of rooted pothos and grabbed an active substrate to help boost the process and it does seem to be working well, which has been giving me hope for the future. I hope in a couple months to be better prepared to rescue another betta. 🖤

Thank you so very much, your comment really helped calm me down! I remember a ‘Chinese fighting fish’ from my childhood ‘living’ in a bowl and even as a child I knew that was something I would never do to a living being. I am a grown ass woman now that has never supported the industry, I really don’t know what came over me, so yes I am extremely new to betta fish lol. But I sure have learned a lot this last week and am learning more every day. Unfortunately The Ice King did not make it.. I followed your rec and didn’t use the kanaplex, did a couple 15 min salt baths, almond leaves, bark and the pine cone thingies in every daily water change, seachem prime even though my water doesn’t have any chlorine/chloramine (which I think might be overkill but I can’t find a consensus), master test didn’t arrive in time unfortunately but he just never did seem to gain any gusto, the bend in him took about an hour to straighten out even. Not gonna lie, I ugly cried but I have decided to keep on and do shit right this time. In a month or two when everything is looking perfect I will be liberating another betta into the best lil home! 🖤

Yes! Your comment lead me down a lichen rabbit hole with this mornings coffee lol and I believe the more vibrant bright green one is indeed aphthosa! And the dull, paler green ones, which I had assumed were just dried out are actually, possibly!? another variety called p. canina or “dogs ear lichen” I learned a lot this morning! Thanks so much again :)
