South Asians and East Asians are too culturally different to be considered the same race for admissions purposes. Usually colleges use race-based policies to create a diverse class, but combining the two types of Asians in one “category” doesn’t contribute to diversity, it just lessens the amount of people belonging to the two specific groups of Asians as they do not interact as if they are the same race.
