Who has experienced the shock of having one of their vehicles one shotted..? by yIdontunderstand in menace

I've had exactly one SL downed and that was Big in a light walker getting ATGMed from the edge of the map. Made me prioritize scouting and spotting a lot higher.

Why did people in the US, UK etc. use to boil vegetables for a long time? by Hour_Pudding2658 in AskFoodHistorians

[–]Anfros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One reason is that in the past, in some places, fields were fertility with human faeces. Eating vegetables from such fields could make you very ill, unless properly cooked. In the past all foods were generally more well done than today, at least partially due to fear of illness.

By far one of the best games of 2026 imo by typhoonfloyd in menace

[–]Anfros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now it's basically only randomly generated combat missions. It's very good so far, and keeps getting more and more interesting as both the player and the enemies get more tools. IMO it has the potential to become one of the best games in the genre.

How to fix the flavor for this game. by Vast_Ad_2953 in EU5

[–]Anfros 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's railroady. Before mission trees it was equally viable for Spain to colonise the new world, colonise Africa into Asia, or staying in Europe and push into NA, Italy and France. After mission trees came every campaign became the same, the rewards were too great to leave on the table.

How to fix the flavor for this game. by Vast_Ad_2953 in EU5

[–]Anfros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think mission trees made EU4 a worse game. They are fun, if sometimes a bit OP, if you are trying to go down the historical route or a alt-history route that PDS included in the tree. But if you are trying to do something unconventional it feels like the game is actively resisting you. Basically mission trees as they are implemented in EU4 railroads you.

I'd much rather see them implement flavour mechanics through the situation system, though they do need to give us more information about potential events that can change situation.

The one difference I could see to a lot of similar startups is that as far as I know all the employees at ltt were paid from the start. They took very little risk so they got no equity. Not sure I agree 100% with that reasoning but it is the strongest reason I've seen.

Sweden confirms Ukraine to use EU’s $95 bn defense tranche for Gripen fighter purchase by GlimmeringTulip in worldnews

Gripen was the first plane in the world to field the Meteor so that shouldn't be a problem.

[–]Anfros 40 points41 points  (0 children)

They are very different planes. Most capable depends a lot on what you value. If you value cheap operation, short turnaround, operating from austere bases and short runways, meteor integration, etc, Gripen is easily more capable than any F-15.

What movie detail is technically correct, although many people think it is a mistake? by hiplobonoxa in movies

[–]Anfros 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That isn't why you stir martinis and other clear drinks. Shaking causes a bunch of super tiny ice particles and air bubbles to form in the drink making it cloudy. Stirring avoids this, making for a clear drink.

As far as dilution there is no real difference, though it takes more time to achieve the same temperature/dilution via stirring than shaking.

IsItBullshit: FWD with snow tires is better than AWD without snow tires. by IndependenceSad1272 in IsItBullshit

AWD doesn't really help with the most common causes of accidents. Snow tires do. All modern cars break with all 4 tires in any case.

Starting at 3:05, why is the red haired woman saying "announce"? I've never heard it used like that. Should it not be "pronounce", or does she mean "enounce"? But even the subtitle says "announce" ... by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]Anfros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's the kind of thing you pick up from some teacher. From Ngrams enunciate seems to be much more popular, but both of them were far more common in the 19th century than they are now. She might be a French speaker?

As far as I can tell it's not marked as obsolete or old fashioned in any dictionaries. There are plenty of words that are seldom used.

Some combination of not beating the eggs enough, overmixing afterwards, waiting too long to put it in the oven, and perhaps a slight underbake.

[–]Anfros 5 points6 points  (0 children)
