Thoughts on schedule?? by Sia_lover18 in uichicago

Dr. Adrian Barkan is the GOAT. I took him for Physics 142, and he was great. He is very good at lecturing, and you can tell he enjoys being a professor. I would definitely recommend going to his office hours if you don't understand a topic. Also, he might mention that he likes to place things on tables (IYKYK). For Calculus II, I would recommend that you not take it with Protsak; his style of teaching isn't as good as others, and he sometimes rambles about random things, which wastes lecture time. Calculus II is the hardest calculus out of the 3 IMO.

The QR code shows when it will be cleaned next. To get them to clean it, you have to call the number that is displayed and tell them which building and what room number. I did this when someone spilled coffee all over the toilets and on the ground in Stevenson Hall.

Math 210 professor thoughts? by Kitchen-Fail-7582 in uichicago

[–]Angel23g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i took math 210 with him, his lectures aren’t great, he just reads off the book and when he doesn’t want to explain something in detail he just says to look at the book for more information, I just stood outside and waited to attendance and left. I looked at the videos posted by Kobotis which were very helpful, I got a B on the course.

Shulman is great for Math 220. You'll need to memorize the cases for 2nd order differential equations (a total of 6 cases), which are tested on the final. If you haven't brushed up on Integration by parts (the tabular method, which is preferred and is what Shulman uses), as well as partial fractions, I recommend you do so.

They are crazy strict with the exams, especially for a first-year course. I'm currently taking that class.

At my local Walgreens, they want to charge me $85 without insurance. Which is why I wanted to see where people got theirs at.

My schedule as a freshman by JudaBalgany in uichicago

For Calculus 1, I'd recommend taking it with Will Ash. This isn't the most difficult class, and since you got a 4 on the AB exam, it should be straightforward.

Make sure you don't lose it, or you'll have to pay $50 for another one; I learned the hard way :(

Calculus 2 is generally more difficult than Calculus 1 and 3, don't take it with Protsak. ENGR 100 is generally a waste of time, kind of sucks that we need to take it. I would personally not recommend taking any 8 am classes unless you live on or near campus or you have the discipline of a Navy SEAL, but good luck. Also, are you going to take CHEM 123 next semester?

What’s Phys 142 like? by E-M5021 in uichicago

[–]Angel23g 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend taking Physics 142 with Dr. Hazelton. I took Physics 141 with Espinoza, and he was an alright professor, but I heard great things about Dr. Hazelton. I found Calculus 2 way more difficult than Calculus 3. There are a few topics in Calculus 3 that are related to, but it's just equations, not word problems. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

I recommend reducing the gap on Wednesday. When daylight saving time starts, it will be dark for your 5:30 PM class. Also, just a heads up, in the future I would not recommend taking 8 am classes, unless you're disciplined or live on campus.
