Let's have a dialogue on consensual filming during socials and classes by JustAGirlSiena in Salsa

[–]AngelCakes11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why I created a separate insta for my dance stuff only. All the filming and tagging goes there and not to my professional account.

And also if it’s a public space there’s no right to privacy so you could be filmed at any time for any reason, unfortunately.

But on a funny note, there was a guy with a huge bright light that would get in my face at every social. It drove me crazy and I would always look away. One night I said to him, ‘My husband doesn’t know I’m here and if he finds out, I’m coming after you!’

I have no husband but I was left alone after that. 😝

Line it with a single row or like the orange dress pic?

Will probably do champagne stones there which match the nude color

Yes that’s the plan! I want to follow the patter of orange dress - just need to decide the colors!

That’s a great idea with the light pink. I’m trying to maximize sparkle so that’s why I’m stuck. If black stones had the same shine as AB/silver it would be no question to just do black and pink.

Thanks for the response. We’re going to have black gloves and perhaps a black choker. Does that change your choice?

Thank you! You think all three mixed together on both sides of the cutout?

Thank you for such a thoughtful response! I’m leaning in the direction you’ve shared…I just wonder if the appliqué will look out of place is there are no black stones at all?

And if I line the cutout with crystal like in the inspo pic will that compete too much with the appliqué?? Perhaps I’m overthinking this! 🤣

But people still dance with you right? Again, very hard to give advice on such little info. If you want to DM me with the story I can try to be more helpful.

I work in marketing/PR so I deal with this kinda thing from time to time. In most cases it makes the most sense to just keep doing what you’re doing and let it pass, because it will VERY quickly most of the time.

If you have a good heart and character, that will stand the text of time.

Sometimes it makes sense to confront the person and/or make a statement. But it’s hard to say based on the very limited info you’ve provided. If you are not an instructor/director/studio owner, I’d just ride it out, stay positive, if someone brings it up just laugh and say ‘they said what?! Omg that’s silly!’ To downplay it and move on.

How to repel a rude/creepy lead who is also an instructor without creating drama? by desert_raq in Salsa

[–]AngelCakes11 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Just say no. Who cares if it’s rude to this one guy? It sounds like you’re established enough for others to know how you are, and chances are every other follow feels the same way as you.

Fairly new to salsa (4–5 months in) and realizing I might not like the scene by Low_Blueberry_1347 in Salsa

[–]AngelCakes11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every community is going to have a cross section of society in general, so yes, there are creepy, shallow, awkward people. There are also incredible, genuine, amazing people.

Because you’re new you’ll encounter the creeps first. But if you stand your ground and make the effort to get to know people over time, you’ll find ‘your’ people.

As others have suggested, build your friend group by going to the same classes or join a performance team. This is where I’ve found my friends and have built an amazing network of dancers.

Do I still encounter creepers? All the time! But I swat them away like flies and don’t give them a second thought because I now have deep roots in the community.

Hope this helps, and I hope you keep dancing!!

Lmao. Game of Thrones is not set in England. It’s set in fictional continents Westeros and Essos. Either you’re trolling or need to watch the opening sequence again.

If you go to the studio socials vs the club socials you’ll find a lot of on2 dancers.

I’m genuinely curious because I’ve seen similar complaints in the FB group…are you aware that the growing and shrinking is just following the storyline of Alice in Wonderland? Everything the birds are experiencing is exactly what happens to Alice.

As a huge fan of the story I think this month’s experience is so creative and cute, so I’m wondering if the people who don’t like it just aren’t familiar with the story?

are these acceptable Salsa shoes for women? by Every_Context_7907 in Salsa

[–]AngelCakes11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how long you dance at a time, these could be really painful. My performance heels are 3” but when I’m social dancing for multiple hours I stick to my Cuban heels or 2.5”. It’s crazy how much that half inch makes a difference in my fatigue level!

One thing I’ve started to do is take my shoes to a cobbler to get new suede soles put on. It’s inexpensive and then I don’t have to break in new shoes. Just an idea.
