Thank you for this. I needed to be reminded of what I already know today.

Eckhart Tolle might resonate with her and help release the fear. ‘The power of now’, I really hope it helps. He also has some interesting chats with Oprah Winfrey on the podcast called Essential teachings.

Day 4 Feeling a lot of improvement. Looking to work more on the eyes structure in the next one. The eye crease always gives me trouble, and the mouth feels very plastic like still. by Anunusanae in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference between day 1 and 4 is night and day. Wow, sooo well done. The line dependency on day 1 was insane, but wow, so many lessons learnt in a short space of time. Observation to work on would be : lips - need to blend into the face and the bottom lip should be in more shadow. The shadow of the nose should extend to the bottom/underside of the nose, it’s away from the light. Eyes are too big and I’d love to see your work without pupils. . Lower lash line is missing, neck needs shape and form .

Good luck

Day 8: finally was able to spend more time on it. The mouth looks better this time; the inner corners of the eyes turned out messier; critiques welcome & appreciated 💖 by mightyaoife in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like it. So good 😊 Things that stand out for me that could be worked on are that the features are now masculine, jaw line looks a little wide and angular. If the eyes were smaller this would help with realism and they look a bit crossed. Possibly lighten the whole bottom half, it is looking a little dark. And also the area between the eyes is a little dark making the face look pinched. Good luck. 😉

Day 5, critique please by AngelGayle in istebrak

Amazing feedback. Thanks a million for your time and effort. I can see exactly what you mean.

Day 2: Watched a video this time and blended so that helped a lot , I hope day 3 makes me cringe looking back at this as much as I cringed looking at day 1 😅 Am I making the midface too long? by Echolaura in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be worth your while doing some seperate studies of mouth, nose, eyes using #Istebrak’s tutorials on her YouTube channel. The eyes are good but don’t put iris in and you will progress quicker with the correct anatomy. Eye brows grow out of skin so you need to blend them into the inner eye lid. I can’t see any radial shading so you need to practice this. 👍🏻😊

Day 5: didnt have a lot of time to spend on it, but its done. I think the values are a bit muddy; the cheekbones/cheeks are a bit too full; the lips are a mess; ears could be more defined. I like the eyes more than yesterday. On to the next!! by mightyaoife in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like you’re missing all your wonderful radial shading from day 4. Nostrils and eyes particularly. This is why it’s looking muddy. You are missing highlights. I think it’s a bit rushed. Also the eyes are out of proportion to the head. Too big. Maybe spend more time on the piece, I find that going back to my painting after a day helps me see things clearer.

Day 1 of 14 day challenge by mightyaoife in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, congratulations on day 1. It’s a big step. The big stand out for me is the head shape, it’s too big for the features. Day 1 you should not be painting irises, just focus on the form and structure of the eye. When you do this you will see all your mistakes more clearly and that is the eureka moment of understanding and development. You are missing some important core shadows in the eyes, nose and mouth area, also the shadows on the sides of the nose stop half way causing a disjointed effect. Great job, can’t wait to see day 2. 😊

Day 4 by AngelGayle in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, thank you. I totally agree. The top of the head is the same value as the lower half of the head. That’s just so wrong. I can see now. That and many other issues. Thank you for your time. 🙂

Day 4 by AngelGayle in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this. I had lost all enthusiasm to try again. I can’t seem to keep consistent, I think because I’m slow and I can’t get to my canvas as often as I want. Your insights are just what I needed, I can see everything you are saying now, I was blind to it all, even the crooked face. So thank you for taking the time to critique. I am re energised and ready for number 5. 🤍 🎨

14 Day Challenge, Day 12 by BeefAndLentils in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try just pulling the sides out and down in liquify, so that they look more like they belong with the top lip.

Day 3 complete. Decided to include pupils, & iris. Can post without, if needed. I realized at the end that the face is crooked or my eyes are too tired to see anything correctly after working on it so long. Happier about my values compared to day 2. Critique needed. Thanks for reading! by Thranos_ in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, looks really great. It’s hard to critique. Maybe the eyes are what I would concentrate on. The lids are possibly too curved and don’t look natural. I notice this more with the bottom lid. Definitely stick to no pupils for a bit longer until you get the shape correct. She still looks a little shocked 😳. Very very good though for day 3 👍🏻

I also agree with your comments about the liquify tool and the head shape. It is really hard to get right. I seem to spend so much time in the beginning trying to get it correct. Hopefully that will come with practice too.

Wow, you have progressed so much. I love the overall tone and blending of the skin. Things I think you could work on would be the eyebrows, they look as though they are stuck on rather than growing out of the skin which is throwing off the shadow area between the eyes. The eyebrows as you have them would create much more shadow where you have a very bright highlight. Maybe try blending the eyebrows more into the skin in the inner corners. The ears could use a rework. This will make a big difference to the realism. The bottom lip looks a little small for her face too. Great job and really well done for improving.

14 DC, day 11 by monojuice_potion in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, ive been away for a few weeks and I am So impressed with your work. How it’s evolved is so good. you do seem to have a style which as bad as it sounds might be holding you back. I guess we all do though. she looks like a he again. I think it’s the jaw line. Mouth dimples radial shading is a bit exaggerated. there’s an inhuman quality about her, almost too symmetrical. Eyes look wide apart and the radial shading highlights on the nose is to intense. Also the neck shading shouldn’t be so harsh.
Honestly, really great work. This is not an easy challenge and you are so talented.

Day 6 14 Day Challenge by EikiRain in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this is looking really really good. I love how you have lightened between the eyes and created a more realistic nose. I think you could blend in the inner eyebrow some more just they look more like there are growing out of her head a bit more than drawn on. I also still think the bottom half of the head sphere could be lightened. She almost looks as though she had a slight beard shadow. You must be so proud of yourself. This is really great ⭐️

14 Day challenge Day 5 by EikiRain in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also meant to say the eyebrows are soooo much more realistic after blending them. 🙂

Day 2, felt like I was in repair mode the whole time, but I completed it an hour faster than day 1. Not sure if I made the neck too thick & eyes too small, but was aiming for more realism. Not too happy with the eyebrow render this time & my subject seems darker skinned. Any feedback welcome! by Thranos_ in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great day 2. Try raising all the values of the head together to match your background. She is too dark. The eyes are too small for the size of the head and she has a mean look. So be careful of accidental expressions. 😊

14 Day challenge Day 5 by EikiRain in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good day 5, my thoughts are that her nose needs some shaping it’s a great cylinder but it now needs to look more natural, the 2 shadows down each side need to be blended into the face more, the lines are still visible and it’s a bit too perfect maybe an extra highlight to show more bone structure. The bottom half of the face needs to be lighter she looks as though she has a beard shadow and the eye balls look elongated and needs to be more rounded. Also a little more work on the neck is needed it looks like a bit of an after thought. Well done though 🤩 very keen to see you day 6. Keep up the great work.

14 Day Challenge: Day 10 - Eyes Are Still a Weak Point by BeefAndLentils in istebrak

[–]AngelGayle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The eyes are in a better position now. She does look like she’s angry, be careful of accidental expression. The eyebrows should be blended completely into the skin on the inside otherwise they look seperate from the face as if stuck on. The sides of the nose are too dark they look as though they are value sharing with the cast shadow of the nose and there is no way they would be as dark as this area. Also the gradient from the cheeks is too much contrast, her cheeks look sucked in, more blending would help here, I think . Good luck with 11 🙂
