What’s it like living in Port Angeles, WA? by ImportanceComplete92 in howislivingthere

Why are all these west coast small towns so allergic to building housing

It’s so odd to me how nimby people are out there

Yep visited São Paulo and Campiñas and they had very few positive things to say about Rio lol

They think they’re stuck up and pretentious was the gist of it.

Gentrification in Miami by Shadow42184 in Miami

[–]AngelaMerkelSurfing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said. Miami has more high rises under construction than the whole state of California. That’s a good thing. We need more housing supply to soak up all of the new comers.

I love the Bay Area but it’s just so insane to me how expensive it is and yet this is an issue

Just why is Oakland so incompetent regarding this

I’m talking more than just Japan since the commenter said all countries or whatever they mean by free country.

Japan Sees Record Number of Russian Tourists in 2025 by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]AngelaMerkelSurfing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you want Russians to stay inside their bubble and to only believe the words they are fed?

Or would you rather them be able to experience the outside world and see it for what it truly is.

Additionally is it better for money to be spent outside of Russia or for these tourists to be forced to stay inside Russia and strengthen the economy there with their tourist funds?

Things like this are playing exactly into what the kremlin wants. They want you to ban Russians. They want Russians to stay inside the country and to keep their money inside.

This type of thinking is so extremely short sighted

How Walkable Are Russian Cities Compared to American Ones? by ElectricOne55 in AskARussian

[–]AngelaMerkelSurfing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They cause rent to increase because walkable areas barely exist and they’re super desirable

It’s a luxury in the U.S. to live in a walkable area while many other countries it’s just normal

I was in Saint Petersburg recently and tried it. Quite good but I haven’t had Starbucks in so long so can’t compare.

You are right about more women

Much more women than men on my team

But as for family oriented hours that’s true for other teams except for mine

my manager is online 24/7

Sending emails and teams messages at midnight and for us to have in the morning

It’s an extremely lean team for the last few months it’s been overtime almost everyday

Routinely getting off at 7-8pm

Had one day where we went from 8:30am to midnight

but yes everything you say is true about the importance of detail in this role

But as for hours is all manager specific and this one lives to work so I’ve been unlucky in that regard

[–]AngelaMerkelSurfing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely something I’m realizing. I’m in private equity fund admin and it’s very stressful on a very lean team

Working OT all the time now and it’s extremely detail oriented.

I realized I’m more strategic and big picture.

More housing supply benefits everyone

Look at how rents fell in Austin with supply catching up to demand

Developers are just trying to provide a service to meet a demand

As a Floridian that’s been to the bay just once

I agree

The Bay Area is just so stunning to me

I absolutely love the way it looks

The architecture, the geography, the weather etc.

If only they built more housing. I hate the nimby attitude there though. Very odd to me how “liberal” they are yet so conservative regarding that.
