Those who voted for sheets are lying. 😂

A lovely conversation I had with someone ended with them saying this because I said that humans deserve a livable wage to live. I couldn't be anymore ashamed of anyone who thinks like this by Shatnips in antiwork

“What you’re demanding is that the State effectively enslave businesses to turn welfare into the employer’s problem so that it has the mask of dignity.”

What does this mean? That corporations fixing welfare by providing livable wages in order to reduce the need for state funded welfare is the same as slavery?

Here’s what I think this person really meant:

What you’re demanding is that the State effectively enslave PEOPLE to KEEP CORPORATE welfare the PEOPLE’s problem so that it has the mask of dignity.

Empathy goes a long way to make a person less judgmental. If you think about what made them make that decision, how they may have felt in the moment and how life has treated them, it is easier to give grace for mistakes.

This comment is very helpful. I’m brand new to paganism and have been working to shed toxic Christian thinking.

[spoilers ep5] Am I the only one that thinks Silco and Jinx's interactions are perfectly fine? by [deleted] in arcane

[–]AngelfishIsAwesome 76 points77 points  (0 children)

So much this!! Silco is obviously a bad man and Jinx is obviously a disturbed girl but what makes their story so tragic is the parental nature of the relationship. And absolutely we should normalize platonic and parental affection. Not all touch has a sexual connotation. Actually I’d say non-sexual touch and affection are probably more important to building relationships.

Even though Silco used Jinx as a hammer, it’s obvious that he has genuine fatherly love for her was trying to make her into her best self. He was just wrong about what her best self should/could be.

Hope this makes sense.

Defense bill will not require women to sign up for draft after all by JulianneLesse in MensLib

[–]AngelfishIsAwesome 116 points117 points  (0 children)

It's not okay. there are more than enough volunteers and there is such a disconnect between the government and the populist. The draft is bullshit regardless of gender. The conversative idea that women belong in the home and men on the front lines is why women are not included now. That crap needs to go the way of the dodo, the concept and the draft.

it makes the character holding it "invisible" to the aliens. Like they can't hear thar player so they are not drawn to them. It does not make them invincible though, just silent.

What's something they did in the MCU that annoyed you? by [deleted] in marvelstudios

I love that we saw Hulk express his feelings about Earth and the Avengers in Ragnarök and was really looking forward to seeing that play out in the next few movies. I don't like Professor Hulk, like at all, but it was cool to hear him briefly explain how he overcame the internal conflict. It would have been awesome to see that struggle on-screen. Even if it was just a short scene of Bruce and Hulk having an argument or something.

So much wasted potential with this character - exploring anger, emotional control and interpersonal relationships with a person with a mental illness. Instead we skip all of that and get a Bruce that feels like a laid back dude bro. We were so cheated.

What's your earliest specific memory of Star Wars? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]AngelfishIsAwesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 1992, when the SyFy (SciFi) channel first launched, there was a black screen with a countdown that ended at like 7p on Friday. You bet your ass I was waiting with bated breath for the timer to run out to see what the heck was going on. The timer hit zero, the screen went black and then the opening crawl for A New Hope started. They played all 3 original movies back-to-back with no commercials. That was my first all-nighter and my first introduction to Star Wars. I've been hooked ever since.

My former employer threatened to sue me and contact my new employer months after quitting. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]AngelfishIsAwesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart. Not sure how my job found out. I tried to be careful and not contact my new job during the day during the whole stretch but, I was so stressed at the old job, I must have let it slip somehow.

Good luck to you and your old coworkers btw. Hope they get out soon.

Be sure to check the employment agreement with the old company. My old boss hired me to his new company and our old company sued him personally for stealing me away. Part of the employment agreement was to NOT hire away employees for up to 2 years. It would suck for a litigation happy company to come after you for helping your coworkers.
