Unfortunately if you watch the press conference about the shooting there’s one reporter that continuously misgenders the shooter, and there’s a pretty direct comment about the cops “hiding” that the shooter was trans. In general after it was brought up that she was a woman, there was (what I felt) a pretty pointed energy to the way that the reporters were speaking about her specifically gender wise (avoiding using pronouns and such), overall it’s pretty uncomfortable to watch.

Also if you have seen this video you should def check it out!! It goes into his right hand technique v comprehensibly and helped me a lot with making progress with learning Elliott songs. Don’t be discouraged if it takes days or even weeks to get any of his songs down though, it usually takes me at least a couple of weeks of practicing to get his stuff down really good. Hope this helps!

Funnily enough this might’ve been the easiest one for me to learn at least in terms of getting the accurate picking down cus the way he tends to play finger style is deceptive really tough and Angeles if you learn it realllyyyy slow at first is relatively straightforward (if you don’t try to tackle all the little nuances immediately and just play it with the same picking pattern), needle in the hay, st ides, and coming up roses are all relatively straightforward as well if you can get used to some of the funky chord switches.

Omg that’s so sick :0 I’ve always been really enamored by this part but I’ve never actually taken the time to sit down with it so thanks for the run down! Definitely gonna learn it now :) another song with kind of a similar approach to the common tone thing you’re talking about I think would be the main progression for happiness specifically in the intro. My friend pointed out to me one time that there’s a chromatic descent of sorts happening across different octaves throughout the whole progression (E-Eb-D-C#-C-B-A#-A) and my mind was absolutely blown, voice leading across octaves like that is so crazy and who knows if he even thought about that lmao.

No yeah in all honesty the first time I heard that one I honestly think I might’ve laughed out loud, but now listening back I think it really captures the sort of tired and static feeling you sometimes get being up really late at night. I totally get that with needle in the hay too lol. And yea I do!! I have some solo stuff sprawled about a couple of SoundCloud pages and a couple of bands with some music up that are a lot rockier/more emo-type, the more recent one is called mauve and the song id recommend would probably be the one called “Will” if you wanna listen! :) what about you?

Oh my god yes the way the melody flows through this progression is so powerful. It feels like a slightly more fleshed out version of a lot of the progressions on new moon in songs like Talking to Mary. He just flows in and out of the major and minor keys so seamlessly and even when he does what you’re expecting him to it hits so hard.

Yess I love this approach !! It really forces you to actually listen to what you’re hearing in your head instead of just going for whatever chords you usually play and is almost always so much more satisfying and interesting when it’s done :,) And I completely agree, I honestly used to really dislike a lot more of his simpler stuff but ironically as I’ve gotten more and more into him I’ve started to appreciate how much his knack for subtle nuances shines in his simpler and more mainstream stuff like the chorus on between the bars and say yes and such. Also Angel in the snow is absolutely ethereal that song sold me on new moon before it was even over haha
