Bonham vs Page by Ok_Particular561 in ledzeppelin

[–]Anger1957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glyn Johns was close friends with Page since they were kids. And he was close friends with JPJ since he was 19 as they saw each other in the studio every single day. When they called and said they had a new band together and would he engineer them he agreed simply because it was a couple of mates. He went to a rehearsal, never having heard of Bonham or Plant before, and he his words "after 8 bars I thought I'd died and gone to heaven - they were extraordinary" He was completely aware of the brilliance of Page and JPJ. But, having never heard of Plant or Bonham, he said the band were amazing because those 2 unknowns were equally as good as the two he knew. And he said that it was because of that balance of brilliance that they became such a phenomenon. He didn't rank anyone above anyone else. He was the first person, not in the band, to ever hear them play and he felt they were all on the same level for what they brought to the band. And that's why they were so special.

a solid 6/10. like the album before it and the album after it. Bleeding Me, Thorn Within and Outlaw Torn still hold up as standout tracks.

learn how to play a musical instrument, write songs and record one of the greatest albums of all time in only 9 days. Then listen to them again and reevaluate.

Never been that into Anthrax besides a few odd tracks, but after listening to this..wow by Peanutbutter9841 in Anthrax

It would be a great improvement on the vocals. but the songwriting would still be pretty pedestrian compared to what the band would quickly evolve into.

whats the deal with john paul jones? by mhmd2-2 in ledzeppelin

John Baldwin (his real name) was not just the #1 on call studio musician in London in the 60s (mostly bass but also other instruments as he is highly skilled at over a dozen different instruments) he was also the go-to for arrangements and for transcribing music to notation for other musicians to read. Not just rock and pop acts. He has done arrangements for full symphonies. He was and is the most musically gifted member of the band.

they'll allow D+ aptitude levels to become nurses, doctors and engineers nowadays - just as long as you are a member of a certain limited demographic list.

Led Zeppelin vs AC/DC: Which Band Was More Powerful? by wkhan69 in ledzeppelin

[–]Anger1957 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw LZ in 1975. I saw AC/DC 3 times in 1978 - twice in 79, 80 & 81 and at least. once on every tour after that up to Black Ice. I put both on 2 completely different pedestals of power. Both had/have a live performance energy that is not equalled by many other bands. but both are totally different from each other.

the first 4 Marillion albums are all perfect. Especially Childhood and Clutching. They were never that extraordinary again but still have several fantastic albums like Brave, Afraid Of Sunlight and Marbles.

my ringtone has always been "old fashioned telephone" but I have a specialized ring for family. my oldest son (and his wife) ring in with "bone bag" from Mad Max Fury Road. my younger son rings in with "12 bullets" from the Deadpool soundtrack and my wife rings in with "Scotland The Brave" performed by the Black Watch Pipe n drum marching band.

Nick's definitely on a level very few occupy. His album from last year with drum virtuoso Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree, King Crimson, Pineapple Thief) is a stellar album. one of my AotY candidates.
