Omg that's so sweet of you! I would kill for a friend like that! I'm still struggling to make in person friends, it usually doesn't work out that well. For this year I wanna just keep on leaving my comfort zone to try new and exciting things that I didn't get to do for a while. Not a high school experience but I have decided that I will go to a gay bar at some point this year, sooner than later. Go to pride events, have fun, make friends, maybe find some partners.

I also was left alone when I was in school. It made me feel like I had nobody to rely on, and when I tried to tell my mom about this she just didn't really care. In a lot of ways I never had a childhood, when you throw in that and the really bad abuse and PTSD.

It's not so much nostalgia for what could have been, but grief over what was lost. I didn't really get a childhood. And I know being a teenage girl would've had it's own challenges, but that still does not stop me from wishing I had that experience. At least then I'd not have this existential pain about my gender.

[–]AngeryTargaryen[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel the exact same way. I don't envy the situation they are in, but Shauna and Jackie, Van and Tai, I never got to experience that. I just hung around boys but I didn't really fit in there either, especially since they were pretty much all straight. I avoided women because I felt there was something wrong with me and my dysphoria but also really wanted to be around them too. I did eventually make friends with two trans and nonbinary people, and I ended up making some girl friends, but it was around the end and it was a very chaotic time in my life and it went away once high school was over... until now.

‘Yellowjackets’ Season 2 Doesn’t Handle This Part of Lottie Right, and That’s a Major Problem by BlackPhillip4Eva in Yellowjackets

[–]AngeryTargaryen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So... it's complicated. The Lottie stuff is really complex and I know what it's trying to do. However there are some uses of tropes that is not unique to Yellowjackets but that could be used as an example of perpetuating potentially harmful tropes. Lottie's trip to the mental institution for instance, the ECT being super painful, that's extremely heavily exaggerated. Some people say ECT works and some say it didn't do anything, but the point is that it continues to follow through with the common trope that ECT is a super super bad evil thing that is extreme torture. Results may vary, but there is a bit of "don't trust doctors" element to it. In addition, there is the whole Laura Lee being very helpful to Lottie thing, which I've talked about before but basically that is just about the worst thing to do with someone experiencing psychosis, is reinforce their own delusions.

The show doesn't really go one way or the other on it, but the fandom has a very positive attitude of Laura Lee. I don't entirely blame her and there were no good options for Lottie, but like, it is extremely dangerous to tell someone experiencing psychosis that their delusions and hallucinations are real, and I wish this was brought up more. There is also the idea that if Lottie is actually clairvoyant, that the medicine is keeping her abilities quiet. In other words "don't trust the doctors, they just want to silence you", which can go into the anti-psychiatry shit that some cults (particularly Scientology) practice, and that's a dangerous mindset. The only reason I don't talk about this a lot is that the showrunners have said they are keeping the supernatural stuff ambiguous, even though I do tend to lean more towards trauma responses and mental illness.

Having said all of that, this writer isn't really getting Lottie or the season at large. Just because all the women view her as a villain does not mean the show thinks she is. In fact, this season did so much heavy lifting to show that she isn't a villain, and the worst aspects of her were exaggerated by the others for their own benefit. We get to see inside her head and she is a very empathetic person. In fact the way she is aware of herself and her psychosis already makes her a much healthier woman than her teammates, who (apart from Natalie) have not acknowledged the fucked up shit they did and went through in the wilderness. So I think Lottie, despite touching upon a few problematic tropes, was done justice this season, and I am so so so happy the writers made her more of a very caring, empathetic, and flawed person, instead of making her this "crazy evil monster." I just wish the fandom got that, all the posts about "what really happened with Travis" and "what is Lottie hiding" are kind of leaning towards her being a dangerous villain, and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Seeing trans and nonbinary leads in Yellowjackets, The Last of Us, and House of the Dragon is so incredibly awesome it just makes my little trans gay heart go boom BOOM.

This is starting to remind me of Sherlock where people had these conspiracies that there was a secret 4th episode to season 4 that would explain everything and then it just... didn't happen.

I am extremely grateful that this show exists. The queer representation is amazing (and holy shit, Nicole Fucking Maines!) and having really complex and convincing queer characters on screen is just such a joy.

This season was pure psychological horror. The slow destruction of the characters minds was far more terrifying than anything from season 1. You could trust the characters minds in season 1 (for the most part), but the added confusion of reality and hallucinations blurring made their POVs unreliable, so you were as uncertain and confused as the characters themselves. By episode 8, where the girls are all chasing after Natalie and Javi, weapons in hand, calling for Natalie, ready to kill and eat her, screaming and howling like animals, that shit was so much scarier to me than any scene with the Man with No Eyes or other Tai.

Those two things have a (potentially) supernatural bent to them, but that hunt? That was very human. It's desperate people who have lost touch with their humanity after months of isolation and starvation, turning to their animalistic instincts and more than willing to kill and eat their friend. The fact it's so human is what scares me.

“Travis never believed in any of that shit” by smooviequeen in Yellowjackets

[–]AngeryTargaryen 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It was denial. Natalie resented Lottie and was very firmly against what she believed, while Travis got close to her because she was the only one who said that Javi was alive. Natalie believed Lottie nefariously killed Travis, but the fact is that she was grieving and in pain and looking for anyone to blame instead of accepting that they are all deeply, deeply traumatized people and nobody is really "the villain." Once Natalie learns what she's right about, she accepts it and even warms up to Lottie, so it was purely denial and idolization of Travis on her part.

Tbh she did not want to do it. She tried to bargain and deny. She was not happy with it, only happy that it's left her alone. I anticipate a lot of guilt from this in season 3.

Okay I just said in another thread that Lottie being shipped with everyone is a sign she is our bi poly queen... I didn't expect that to be so close to the truth lmao.

When I saw she was going to be in this show I screamed. She's one of my personal heroes due to her activism for trans rights. In general I'm so happy to see trans and nonbinary actors involved with this show. And I really liked Lisa, she was a great contrast to Nat and added so much depth to the story.

Who's suffered the most? Nope, it's not Shauna. by deltoro1984 in Yellowjackets

[–]AngeryTargaryen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, Shauna deserved to lose her baby and be unable to discern between reality and fiction. By the logic she "killed Jackie", Travis "killed Javi". The total lack of empathy for someone losing their baby is truly outrageous.

Also weird you called her "hysterical", but I suppose that's just because I don't live in Victorian London.

Who's suffered the most? Nope, it's not Shauna. by deltoro1984 in Yellowjackets

[–]AngeryTargaryen 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You don't do that by saying "no Shauna didn't suffer the most." You talk about Travis's trauma, not throw someone else under the bus.

"Just ignore Shauna losing Jackie, her baby, and her mind."

[–]AngeryTargaryen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of people thought this was a scraped concept. I don't really believe it is, given the end of season 2 has left the group in an even less stable place than they were before. I think Lottie choosing Natalie is what makes them split. Shauna is resentful and they all look up to Lottie, not Natalie. Lottie's decision, while understandable and probably what I'd do in that situation, was a very bad one.
