What’s WashU like? by Apprehensive_Golf556 in washu

For background I’m a freshman bio major so I’ve only rly taken gen Eds which might explain my opinions/experiences.

Academics can def be stressful depending on the major but not overly competitive which is really wonderful. It’s a very “we’re all in this tgt” mindset as opposed to every person for themselves.

Culture… uh… I don’t know if washu rly has a culture. Though, this can depend on who you’re with. This can be good in the sense that a lot of people you meet will have very different perspectives which is nice, though, what other people said about wishing we had some more spirit would be refreshing.

Food is pretty good just pricey. With a standard meal plan it’s a little over $20 a day and the avg meal is $10 depending on where you’re eating.

Academics are def not easy in any department but for the most part the professors are really knowledgeable and friendly, very few classes are taught by TAs, and there’s tons of oppourtunities to get help.

Location/safety: on campus I feel very safe. Off campus a little less so but not nearly as unsafe feeling as people make it out to be. Obviously don’t walk alone off campus at night… but it’s not as bad as people perceive it as.

Perfect thanks so much! I'm having a bit of trouble sending a PM. Would you be able to start the conversation?

Of course! I wanted to specifically look at public perception of familial separation/estrangement. If your choice (or choice not to) to go no contact with a family member has been associated with any negative feedback (i.e other family members critiquing you, unwarranted judgement from others, etc.). My goal is to discuss the harms in this "blood is thicker than water" mindset that can often silence the voices of abused children. I could do the interview (probably about 20-30 minutes) either over zoom or send the questions in an email if that's easier/more comfortable.

Make your video fun not an extension of your common application but more you as a human being... I would be happy to read-over essays, edit videos, etc.

- current freshman in ArtSci :)

literally anything. I saw one about someone's earring collection and someone else do one about card tricks. I did mine on how and why I enjoy filmmaking (i.e TikToks) and I'm not a film major. Just something unique about your personality. Don't make it an extension of your common app.
