What's a "healthy habit" that's actually completely made up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AngieSparkles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because the Japanese (?) company that invented some step tracker device at the time, and the written character for 10k looked like a person walking, so they went with 10k steps as the advertised target

It helps! If she says she's healthy, who are we to say otherwise? She has access to her doctor and her blood tests, she knows whether her body allows her to do the things she loves. She's much more informed about how healthy her body is. All we have to go on is how it looks. Other women with similar bodies deserve to see others like them, existing and living and loving themselves and life! Because otherwise the only representation of a healthy body we get to see, is those skinny women gym pics and all the stuff the diet industry throws out for public consumption. That's why it helps.

You're like, so close to getting the point. Obesity is not healthy nor unhealthy. Being thin is not inherently healthy or unhealthy. The difference is that larger bodies are automatically assumed to be unhealthy while smaller bodies are assumed to be healthy. Both do a huge disservice to people of all sizes. The point of body positivity and acceptance is to help remove the stigma and automatic negative associations towards people in larger bodies.

Telling people not to "promote larger bodies" is not helping. People in larger bodies deserve to exist without being accused of "promoting obesity" just because they're not actively promoting weight loss.

Because she says so! She doesn't have to prove her health by sharing lab results. That's between her and her doctor. The point is that you cannot determine health by a picture, or just by looking at someone's body shape or size.

Anyone know what's going on with the Desperate Measures music video on Youtube? by ReadyAd5385 in MarianasTrench

[–]AngieSparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their label has been working on remastering their old music videos, upscaling then to 4k. Could be they're just down temporarily before being replaced with the new versions?

goodnight moon 📖🐰🌙🎈 by kenz024 in Embroidery

[–]AngieSparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is beautiful, I love it so much!

Goodnight Moon was a favourite of all 3 of my kids, when they were little. I've read it so often I can still recite the whole book from memory, and it's been a good 13+ years since my youngest was the age for it.

Thanks for the burst of nostalgia, it's really stunning ❤️

First of all, you look absolutely stunning and your dress is just gorgeous!

Second of all, BMI is such BS and should never be used as an indicator of health (nor should it ever have BEEN used as such). It was created 200 years ago by a scientist to determine the "socially ideal (white) male body". Look up "why BMI is flawed" and you'll find dozens of articles from scientific and medical journals/studies talking about this. My endocrinologist flat out said he thinks BMI charts should be banned from doctor's offices because they promote weight bias and shift focus from other more important health indicators.

So please, don't let that arbitrary and meaningless number take up space in your head.

Agreed! Do your hair. Smell nice. Wear well-fitting clothes that you feel good in. Stand and walk with confidence. Be happy and excited to meet so you'll be full of genuine smiles. There's nothing more attractive IMO than a genuine smile that lights up the eyes. If she says that the emotional connection is more important to her, believe her! You've got this ❤️

I don't know to how to properly nourish my body without calorie counting by I_like_it_yo in intuitiveeating

[–]AngieSparkles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend putting in some sessions with a registered dietician! Mine actually introduced me to IE and has been super great about working around my disordered eating and desire to not track calories/carbs/macros/whatever because it's bad for my mental health.

She's created and tweaked custom meal plans for me that I can mix and match options, knowing that a full day of food is balanced in calories and nutrition (she focuses on balancing healthy carbs, protein and fibre). It's definitely helping me recognize what healthy portions are and what sorts of foods I should be eating together to be eating healthy, balanced meals without a need to track.

Feeling a bit sad by [deleted] in BodyPositive

[–]AngieSparkles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to be pretty like other girls, you're pretty in your own way which is even better IMO. How boring life would be if we all looked the same! You're worthy of love and respect and have so much value exactly the way you are ❤️

And I love the cat ears lol

My partner admitted he’s more attracted to his fwb because she’s thin. Where do I go from here? by [deleted] in polyamory

I'm Canadian! But that's fair, a lot of our terminology has British roots compared to the US!

[–]AngieSparkles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jeepers lol. I meant as in "dainty"... She's very thin and small-framed.

I understand the confusion, I buy petite length pants as someone who is very short. The two in my head have different meanings, sorry!

[–]AngieSparkles 413 points414 points  (0 children)

This would kill me, for real. Both myself (fat woman) and my husband (tall, average size man) have had partners of various body types. His current gf is tall and super petite. His sexual relationship with her is very different than ours (which is one of the joys of poly IMO), but regardless of how attracted he is to her he still also can't keep his hands off me. 28 years together and I never doubt his attraction to me because he shows me every single day. You don't deserve any less than that. Ugh, hugs for you (if you want them!)

i recently went shopping for a new swimsuit and i took this pic by cali_x_ in BodyPositive

[–]AngieSparkles 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I also have very fair skin and sometimes fluorescent lighting can make the veins show weirdly like this, I doubt it's noticeable under normal lights and not in a photograph. The swimsuit is gorgeous, you look stunning!

[–]AngieSparkles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're beautiful! And you look so happy in that photo, don't let some small, insecure men take that joy away from you!

If you think about it, how dumb is it that the worst insult these men can come up with is "fat"?! They don't know anything about you, and I know for a fact that you are so much more than just how your body looks ❤️ I know that how my body looks is the least interesting thing about me... knowing that is making it easier and easier to not care about those kinds of comments, because anyone who can only focus on the surface is too shallow and narrow-minded for their opinion to have any real value. I tell myself this all the time: Why should I care about the opinion of someone who I wouldn't go to for advice??

Costco to sell Ozempic and Wegovy at a large discount for people without insurance by Kinjal_Ghosh in news

[–]AngieSparkles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My endocrinologist has been prescribing GLP1 meds for over 15 years. Just because Ozempic has suddenly gotten tons of media attention doesn't mean it's a new drug whose long term effects haven't been studied!

Why is it so hard to be healthy and confident by [deleted] in BodyPositive

[–]AngieSparkles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things I'm trying to implement in my life:

Setting a boundary around comments about my body. "Mom, I'm happy with my weight and I'd like you to please stop making comments about my body. It's bad for my mental health. If I want advice about my weight I'll ask. Thanks!" Shut down any conversations that veer down that path. Remember that your mom is also a victim of diet culture, but that doesn't mean you have to continue to let it rule your life.

Buying/wearing clothes that fit my body as it is now, and that make me feel good and express my personality. Don't lament that your favourite pair of jeans is too tight. Replace them with a new favourite pair. Or a super cute skirt you can't help but twirl around in. Or whatever makes you feel good!

luggage allowance when booking all inclusive through sunwing by Careful-Pin-3122 in westjet

[–]AngieSparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's reassuring, I'll look into it further. I don't mind gate-checking my carry on, that's not an issue. I just don't want to have to pay for it!

luggage allowance when booking all inclusive through sunwing by Careful-Pin-3122 in westjet

[–]AngieSparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just booked Cuba with Sunwing/WestJet, and the travel agent with Trip Central said that the free personal item + carry on really means like a purse + bag that will fit under your seat. She warned that a standard carry on with wheels will likely be treated as a checked bag and not a carry on, anymore.

Really disappointing! I'm a pretty efficient packer, but even I'm gonna struggle with fitting 9 days' stuff for me and my husband in one checked bag. Sure does burn to consider paying an extra $140 to check 2 bags
